The Herenthor, Population:110 A young boy named Hmph was at his finished hut in the forest. This had become the spot where he had spent most of his time the last couple of months. He thought about how the tribe had began to rely more and more on hunting, and many men had died as a result. Hmph's father was one of them. Earlier this day Hmph overheard a couple tribe members discussing kicking him out of the tribe! Their reasoning was that the boy was not only a slow learner, and made no effort to fix the fact he was not as skilled at survival as he should be. He would often retaliate at anyone who tried to push him work hard. They believed he was beginning to live off the tribe without pulling his own weight. Hmph realized that this was probably true, but he didn’t like it. The boy sat there, chewing on a Meesk's (Or Somph in Herenthorese) rib. Hmph’s only friend in the world popped out of the bushes. It was an animal that looked like a wolf with a anteaters trunk, Hmph called this one Ferf. The boy tossed his pet the rib bone and Ferf proceed to suck the marrow out of the center. These animals were able to find nutrients in all parts of any animal. "If only they would appreciate me!" Hmph explained, using the animal as a sounding board, "I can run and build, but that isn't good enough for them. 'He can't make stone claws that are sharp, or even do a good job of tying them on.' or 'He can't track a Pherp off of a two day trail, he's hopeless!'. They want too much." As he finished his rant, Hmph looked up to see that Ferf had caught a Thith, a pesky rodent that was destroying crops, and cut it open. He was now helping itself to some brain matter and more bone marrow. “You have a knack for findings those,” Hmph mused. That’s when it hit him, he could solve the problem! If he used the animals like Ferf to stop the Thith from destroying crops, there was no way they could kick him out. Domestication ¼ --- Three Herenthor, named Feeb, Phlubee, and Ruffh, were in a particularly bad mood today. It was the couple’s, Feeb and Phlubee, turn to try and teach the orphan child, Hmmph, survival lessons. Ruffh was there because had stubbed his toe one too many times today. With anger, they brought their issue to Phamp, the village elder. The three believed that Hmph was becoming a burden, and that he should be expelled from the tribe. Feeb walked up to the elder and stomped her foot before she began, “Phamp, there is an issue we must discuss! The young… Monster!” Feeb’s wasn’t referring to Hmph, but to a deep black creature that fell from the branches of a nearby tree. It was smallish, about the size of an adolescent Herenthor who hadn’t quite reached maturity. Soon the creature was running off, faster than any Herenthor could follow. “Ruffh, I have a job for you,” muttered Phamp. [@Father Dagon]
