If you've ever walked or ran a kilometre, you know anything that moves at less than near bullet velocity probably wouldn't reach a kilometre. Even bullets drop off over a kilometre, and they move at the speed of sound. Harpoons would need more velocity because they're heavier and if they had that kind of force I think there would've been a lot more damage to the Sundancer.
