[@Gurren1] In all fairness, I fully agree with the Independence movement - colonialism was a magnificent display of power and over-achievement for a tiny island nation but the methods employed were despicable and I am deeply ashamed we have yet to recognize them. Nevertheless, I still maintain if we weren't busy thrashing Napoleon in Spain and France then we would still be ruling America - which would be a travesty for democracy. Also - I will never forgive the dumping of tonnes of perfectly good tea into the sea. What a waste! (Jokes, the symbolism was very important). P.S. I'm a history graduate so I know this stuff objectively!
Our celebration of independence from the British rule is somewhat less inspiring to me with the way that this country has deviated from our foundations. I celebrate this holiday partly for our Declaration of Independence as well as a sign for our troops that have and are serving to say that we stand behind them. Unfortunately I see our country's "Tolerance" ideal as destructive to our nation's heritage and what we fought for in the revolutionary war. We are become less of a "Proud and Free" and more of an "I'm Sorry" nation.
