Name: Charles "Charlie" Parson
Sex: Male
Age: 31
Nationality: Wastelander
Appearance:
Charles still resembles his once attractive self, although it's become hard to tell his age. His face is lined, there are bags under his eyes, and his skin shows clear signs of how much time he spends in the sun. Charles walks softly, his gaunt body moving across the desert with very little noise. Charles wears impossibly worn cowboy boots, a grey shirt, denim jeans and a jacket, covering it all with a tough, dark leather coat.

Personality: Charlie is soft-spoken, and he moves mostly silently. He tries not to draw too much attention to himself. He's thankful to his companions for taking him in, and they're probably the only people in a long time that he's been with long enough to trust. Using his gift makes him feel dirty, but he knows he's valuable to the Bastards, and he takes a kind of hesitant pride in it.

Background: Charles had only just passed into young adulthood when he realized his gift. Few people ever get to perceive the twists of fate, much less twist it themselves, so to the small farming town of Garnet, his awakening was a blessing. Birds and vermin stayed away from the rice fields, injuries seemed to heal quicker, and those who traveled to other towns to trade came home with a slightly bigger return than they otherwise might've. He did valuable work: for the first time in generations, Garnet prospered, and it was because of him. It seemed that old Snake-Eyes had finally decided to award them a lucky roll. It would be wrong to say that Charles was worshipped, but he received a lot of requests and positive attention, and although the nature of his gift embarrassed him, he thoroughly enjoyed it, happily trying to fulfill as many wishes as possible. It was a good three years.

Of course, when an untested, arrogant young man twists fate as much as Charlie did for Garnet, eventually fate twists back. While the crops still, grew tall and strong and traders still returned with full pockets, little by little people began to discover malignant growths on their bodies. His parents were the first to succumb to the cancers. After a summer of miscarriages and stillborn babies, Charles finally realized that he was to blame. To this day he's not entirely sure if he made the decision to exile himself before or after he was run out of town. He fled into the desert knowing very little about making it in the wastes. The gifts with which he had killed his people he now used to call vermin to him. Coyotes, rodents, and lizards would feel drawn to him, unsure why they were approaching the man who meant to snap their necks. Their meat was stringy and often foul-tasting, but meat it was. Little by little he learned to make it on his own, only approaching settlements if he had to. Even then, he never stayed long, afraid that his mere presence would call on the forces that he would eventually learn had entirely wiped out his town, nobody but the most desperate for shelter daring to move into the dry, empty houses of Garnet.

That's why he's with the Bastards: he's found a way to use his dirty magic for good. It took him twelve years to finally learn that his gift won't kill everything it touches. You can twist fate without bringing it down on your head like a crumbling house of cards, but you need to watch yourself. So he does.

Gear: Charlie carries a sharp knife in his belt and a bolt-action rifle slung across his back. For his magic, most of what he uses needs to be fresh, but he does carry a small pouch of animal bones, as well as a set of six dice and a deck of cards. Neither have ever been used for a game.

Skills: "Some people are born with the gift to peer at the cards of destiny, draw certain cards from the middle of the deck, even shuffle it entirely.

Me, I'm a cheater. I can stack the deck, fudge the dice. It's not pretty. It comes with a cost. But it works, at least most of the time."

Charles may be one of Snake-Eyes' lowest children. Whereas tribal shamans can look into the future, and the mages of Rhys are rumored to sling fireballs with a single word of power, Charlie deals with low magic. It's the burning of weeds arranged in a specific pattern, the drawing of symbols in fresh animal blood, the attempt to read the direction of a thunderstorm in a dice throw. It's often slow work. But it seems mostly reliable.

Simply put, Charlie, like he guesses others do, feels the run of destiny all around him, almost like standing in a river. Sometimes he can feel a delta upstream, other times he'll simply have an idea of which herbs to burn and which bones to break to have a look at where the water's flowing. He can't do much, but examples include compelling animals do perform simple tasks (this seems to be easier if the task makes the animal walk towards its death), lighting small fires, and making people trip and things fall over. Generally, his gift consists of making coincidences tip in his favor. He feels like he's cheating, and he's deeply envious of Kaz's gift. It might be complete chaos, but at least it's pure.

Name: Abraham "All Time" Stronghand
Sex: Male
Age: 91
Nationality: Wastelander
Appearance: Stooped to the height of 5"9' with somewhat long grey hair. Usually dressed in baggy game-skinned pants, a light undershirt with a deer(or other game)skin vest, and a leather coat over that. He likes to keep his clothes relatively clean, but the pair of dice sandwiching a bronze cog that he wears around his neck never leave.
Personality: A tired wise old man, his years sometimes catch up to him and he feels more tired than he should. Though he is mostly a calm person he does enjoy a good prank or joke. A generally well liked person, he rarely meets a person that he has a problem with.
Background: Background: When he was young, barely the age of eight, his father took him and moved to Akaria. His father was a scientist at heart, born into the wasteland he did as much as he could, but that land wasn't exactly the most developed. They set off so his father could study the powers of steam and machine. In Akaria their life settled into normalcy. Abraham was entered into a private school where he was taught about machines and science. It wasn't until Abraham turned ten that the school started teaching the students the ways of war. He was taught how to fire everything from a wastelander rifle to chain fed gattling guns. That was where his learning differed from the other students. The Akaria teachers didn't feel it was proper to teach Akaria secrets to a foreigner, which was outrageous to Abraham because they were his father was a well accepted and respected man amongst Akaria(ian) in the field of science, so he was excluded from all lessons pertaining to the best of Akaria technology. In this time Abraham set down to learning all he could about his homeland. Between his schooling and helping his father with his work, Abraham rarely had time to make friends in Akaria.

In his early thirties, Akaria decided it would like to take part of the Wasteland. The war was waged and Abraham fought on the side of the Akaria, something that he always keeps a secret. It was in these battles that Abraham had his first love. She was a soldier in his company, a sharpshooter to be exact and it was countless times during the war that they saved each others lives. He and She shared a tent, going into battle together and returning as two for months on months. One day he was shot in the leg by a stray bullet, with her help they returned from that battle and he was able to recover. Many months passed until the officers found out about their arrangements, its needless to say the officers were furious. Somehow a Wastelander had made it into one of their best squads without them noticing. They moved Abraham to another squad the next day. In the next battle without Abraham to watch her back, she was killed by a Wastelander bullet. Grief stricken, Abraham confronted the officers, but they payed little attention and cast him from their sight. his old squad mates tried to console him, giving unto him her lucky cog, but his fury was terrifying he had lived in Akaria all his life; never once giving reason to doubt his loyalties, but they still removed him from one of their best squads and that had cost his friend her life. That night Abraham killed the officers in their sleep and fled from the camp. He spent weeks on the run, hunted by Akaria parties and Wastelanders alike. Yet somehow he managed to escape and settle in a small mining town far to the south.

Years passed and his life settled down, he found himself a wife and time passed as he became a Wastelander at heart. When he was 48, his wife died from a disease (let's just say dysentery) and Abraham set off on the move once more. He began moving from place to place; doing what he could for each area but never settling for very long. He acted as a small time vigilante, dealing justice with his shotty and sword. Many many years passed in this manner until his mining accident when he was 59, this reopened his old war wound making walking hard. When he did recover he was never the same, forced to use a cane. Blah blah blah feelings, blah blah, leg.

((ok Im going to rewrite this pile of crap. A horrible horrible backstory, its not detailed and quite badly written. The ideas are lacking also, but im tired.))
Gear: hidden in the folds of his coat. His ornate carved walking stick...*Cough* sword cane?*Cough*
Skills: It might be a magic or just his general personality (no one knows, not even Abraham) but he can calm even the most rabid of animals, and the odd human or two, with just a few soothing words. He's quite good at acting like he is more feeble than he truly is. What he lacks in accuracy he makes up for with a shotgun, though he still has some skill with his sword even despite his years.

Thanks! I wanted him to give him a bit of the feel I got from reading about Randall Flagg in the Dark Tower series and The Stand without making him a total demonic villain-type. I think we should leave that to the dude claiming he's The Dealer ;)

Ok, on to other characters, then home, and more characters!

A note to y'all with swords: swords aren't gonna be all that useful against most people as most fights are with guns, but they won't be useless as there are going to be situations where you're going to be in more closed quarters. Just a thought.

@Invictus: Abraham is also accepted! I enjoyed the backstory but if you're dissatisfied then feel free to change it. It is your character, after all.

Oh yeah, Gingerboi I'll have to PM you about you and the Prophet parting ways.

@Amalvi: Radolfo is also accepted!

I figured, but since my character comes from a chivalry medieval-renaissance country it just seemed unfitting for it not to have one, that's why I though that a gun attached to a rapier would be the thing that both would prove useful and still be in the character

Name: Bryan "Scalphunter" Hudson
Sex: Male
Age: 53, although he considers himself 51
Nationality: Wastelander

Appearance:

Hudson stands at five foot eleven, a fairly lean fellow with a body is pitted with scars and bullet wounds - some ritual, some consequential. He wears a necklace of shark-teeth and animal bones with a single totem to Snake-Eyes underneath his scarf. He wears sun-baked leather boots that should probably have fallen apart by now, but simply refuse to do so. He normally wears the apparel seen in the picture, with a big leather rucksack and a coat of sewn together furs. He also keeps his scalps in there. It does not smell great, that rucksack.

Personality:
Bryan is, above all, a cautious man. He has little-to-no patience for those who go in gung-ho, guns blazing and not much respect for codes of honour or ideals of heroism that promote such behaviour. The more cunning a person, the more likely he is to like or respect them. Trust is something he neither holds nor expects from others, and considers it a quaint notion. He is a hard man without compassion, having had it worn out of him by his path in life. The honour code he holds himself to is unorthodox at the least - once he has taken his due to his god, he touches the corpse no more; he always completes the job, unless given a better price; and he gives mercy to the dying.
He has also had something of a crisis of conscience as of late. As a man gets older, he looks back upon his deeds, and his retrospection has troubled him deeply.

Background:
"Take from the body that which is your signature, your right. Leave the rest for our Father, it is his due."

-To dismiss the Scions of Carcaras as a run-of-the-mill death-cult or group of contract killers would probably be a gross simplification. They are devoted to the lesser god Carcaras, the Shark of the Cards, who is the god of murder, of mercy and of killers, a subordinate of Snake-Eyes and is often depicted as a psychopomp. Wanderers of the wastes, the Scions take in foundlings, strays and other unwanted children to raise them into the cult in safehouses scattered around. Each child is taught how to act, how to read the stars, how to free-run, how to survive in the wastes and how to kill. At the 13th anniversary of their induction into the cult, they are sent out to kill the first adult they meet. The first of their victim's body parts that the cultist damages must be ritually removed from the corpse, and from all of their other kills. One year later, they must travel to a body of water and kill themselves a shark, to show that they are a true child of the Shark of the Cards. The Scions of Carcaras intentionally inflate the rumours about them: that they can track a man by the smell of his blood, that they do not need to eat, that they can swim through the sand. These aren't true, of course, but a scared target is an easy target, and it also allows them to charge outrageous bills for individual hits.

-Bryan Hudson was a whore-child, taken at age two from a brothel. His first kill was a trader wandering the wastes; he tricked the man into believing he was a lost child and as the trader took him on [camel or other domestic animal of similar nature]back towards civilisation, he jumped on the man and stabbed him to death. The first wound he inflicted was on the man's scalp, and thus he became Scalphunter. The teeth he wears on his neck were torn from the mouth of a young bull shark he managed to trick into lunging onto a riverbank. His necklace used to have a scrap of sharkskin on it from a failed attempt to scalp the shark, but it eventually rotted and fell off.

-That was 38 years ago, and Bryan has since become one of the more prolific members of the cult. He is somewhat looked down upon by other Scions as he refuses to perform in a more traditional manner by retiring in his old age to pass on his wisdom to trainees. He also is known for being comparatively cheap, another factor that has driven a wedge between him and his fellows. He has killed many men and women, some monstrous, some virtuous, some rolling neither high nor low in terms of morality. This didn't used to bother him, but recent changes have driven him to try to repent for some of the things he has done - and now he has committed the second greatest sin of all in the eyes of the Scions: He has taken on a job with both an indefinite ending and no deposit.

Gear:
-Three tomahawks: One Akarian make, all alloys and mechanical designed, two standard wood and steel.
-One scalping knife, not used for anything else as that would be heretical.
-One regular buck-knife, not used for scalping unless really necessary.
-One lever-action rifle and ammunition, mostly used for hunting game
-Survival gear such as canteen, salt, sleeping roll, tinderbox.
-A set of heavy rings on his right hand that serve to add some extra punch to his right hook.
-Sharktooth and Snake-Eye symbol necklace that identifies him as a Scion.

Skills:
-Skilled tracker and star-reader.
-Passable actor
-Good survivalist, more than willing to perform more unseemly actions in name of living another day.
-Good shot with the lever-action, though less so in the heat of battle
-Exceptionally good at sneaking around and freerunning - though the latter is more 'in theory' nowadays than in practice.
-Damn good close combatant and a dab hand at throwing tomahawks.

Well, that's Bryan. Is the whole Scions of Carcaras okay? They're kind of somewhere between Sorrowful Men and Anton Chigurh sort-of-thing. Might make for a good tertiary antagonist.

Yeah, it'll definitely still be useful, but a bit more situational. Him being for Iris, it's definitely fitting.
As a side-note though, something like that would definitely be Akarian made. Possibly it was a gift to his family from some Akarian diplomat?

As for who would actually carry a sword around, I think really only military types (mostly as a decorative thing, but they're not fake. Sometimes they actually have to use those!) or anyone from the Iris isles would carry an actual sword as opposed to just a knife or an axe or something. I could see someone from Shaq'ir with one too, but they'd more likely be curved. Swords.
Sorry, I just had to do that.

@Ezekail: My one complaint is that someone from Rhys (yeah, Rhysian works) most likely wouldn't be getting a fancy education like that what with the constant revolutions thingy it's got going, though I suppose there's a chance that one ruler managed to stay in power long enough to get colleges going. Or maybe the college was privately run in a more remote location. You might also want to say why they've decided to join up with a gang of vigilantes too.

@Singemeister: I'm loving the idea of Carcaras! Can't wait to see Bryan.

Name: Vel “Black Hat” Hawthorne
Sex: Male
Age:27
Nationality: Wasteland; formerly of Rhys
Appearance: Vel is 5’10 and weighs just under 200 pounds, not a large man by any standards but he has a muscle tone that is hidden by his clothes. He has a weird shade of blonde hair that is almost green coupled with light brown eyes. His clothing is as pictured.

Personality: Vel has an issue with authority figures and has never taken well to being told what to do. Vel also tends to act on whims, not thinking about the consequences his actions may bring. Despite these qualities Vel does have moral code that influences his action, though to an outsider this may not be apparent. Though he has a moral code Vel refuses to play by what others view as “the rules”.
In his eyes life is a game and the only purpose of a game is to win. In life “winning” equates to living another day and with such a grand pot on the line who can blame a guy for cheating?

Background: Vel was born in one of the smaller towns in the country of Rhys. He didn’t realize it as a child but his family was only barely able to keep themselves off the street and fed. Despite this when Vel turned 9 his father bought him a pair of butterfly knives and began to teach him how to use them. It was also then that his father recounted to him for the first times his exploits as a soldier in the Rhysian Army. Vel’s father had never intended to glamorize the army but in the young child’s mind he had painted a picture of hero’s who fought for all that was good in the world. As Vel grew he began to notice that his parents fought more and more as time went on, more often than not it was money they fought about. With the weight of poverty pressing down upon his family and the thought of the Army as heroes it was no surprise when at the age of sixteen he told his parents that he was leaving to join the military. At the announcement of the news his mother began to cry and his father took him into the other room of their small hovel. Opening a trunk his father pulled a wooden box out of it and gave his son the box. Handing the box to his son he told him that he should know that a real man knows when he has to fight, and more important when he has to win. Taking these words to heart Vel opened the box to reveal the revolver his father had named Hydra. Accepting the gift and wisdom from his father he packed his bag and left. His parents promising him that he could always return home to them.
After Vel joined the military he realized that it wasn’t a group of heroes, it was hell. Never was he allowed to make his own decisions and never did he have free will. In all honesty it was amazing that he made it through basic training albeit not without being punished a multitude of times. It was 3 years after he joined that the revolution erupted. It had been over a decade of peace and suddenly with one attack from a group of rebels that peace was ended and Vel finally got to see the “glory” of war that his father had spoken of.
With start of the revolution Vel was pulled into action under Major Iron Nelson. Vel instantly hated his commanding officer, mainly because of the “commanding” part, but partially because the guy was a coward and a heartless jerk. As the revolution became more rampant the soldiers were given quarters in all the major cities, in the best housing available. The housing edict that on paper made sense, stationing soldiers wherever there rebels were most likely to be, quickly made the people of Rhys more angry. It was on a standard patrol that Vel officially quit the country of Rhys.
Major Nelson, Vel and 3 other soldiers were doing a late night patrol of the city they were stationed in when a teenager who was with his friends, all of which were not much younger than Vel’s 20 years of age threw a rock at the Major who was leading the group. Nelson turned to the group and ordered that the soldiers arrest the teens. Vel and 3 others began towards the group of boys when they broke and began to run. Major Nelson in his fury ordered that they be fired upon for attacking the military, calling the rebels. Vel who already despised authority dropped his military issued musket and drew Hydra from its holster, cocking all three hammers he turned to Major Nelson who had his rifle drawn and aimed at boys. Before the Major could fire Vel pulled Hyrda’s trigger, emptying three rounds directly into Major Nelson’s face. At the same time his fellow soldiers fired there muskets. Turning he saw 2 of the 5 boys fall to the ground as bullets from the three soldiers made contact recocking the hammers of Hydra, Vel gave his fellow soldiers the chance to drop their weapons and leave, 2 of them obligied leaving the area in a rush. The third turned to Vel calling him a traitor charged him with the bayonet, Vel didn’t hesitate and killed another of his fellow soldiers. Not less than a minute later Vel heard the sound of boots running on the cobblestone. Deciding to live another day, Vel fled.
Over the next few days Vel heard rumor that the military was looking for a soldier that had went insane and murdered his commanding officer, in part the rumors made him smile but the rest of him feared what would be done if they caught him. After a week of fleeing south he began to see fliers advertising “Private Vel Hawthorne” as a wanted fugitive. He continued his flight to Akaria.
Stopping in Akaria, he spent a few months working odd jobs and making money. One afternoon in a bar that Vel had taken up working in a group of ragged men, all of them carrying obvious weapons wandered in to the bar. He was sweeping the floor when they walked in and the bartender was in back. Turning to face them he welcomed them to the establishment. As he did a look of familiarity crossed a couple of their faces. Vel didn’t see it. Hours later when Vel left to head back to the loft that he was renting the men followed him out. Cutting through an alley the men made their move, and jumped Vel saying something about a reward if they could get him across the border and then it dawned on Vel bounty hunters screaming for his life, he felt something in him shift and suddenly the men were screaming, crying and in a general state of confusion, some ran the ones that didn’t were to shaken to actually move. Vel managed to climb to his feet and stumble out of the alley and into a semi busy street, as he did he heard one of the bounty hunters “His e-eyes, wh… what the hell is wrong with his eyes?”. Out in the street Vel collapsed sick to his stomach and his vision shaking he passed out. He awoke the next morning in the street and after returning to his loft and packing his stuff he began his journey out of Akaria as well. Through time, effort and study Vel learned that he had been able to induce fear in the bounty hunters, and that the one who had mentioned his eyes had been referencing the change in shape and color that happens when he begins causing fear. Despite practice that Vel has put in he still finds himself in an incredibly weakened state after using it. Learning about his power Vel began worshiping Snake-Eyes and has since become a devoted follower.
Vel has since met up with the “Lucky Bastards” few of which know his full story of how he came to be in the wastelands, most of them do know him though by his signature black hat that he picked up in Akaria and the guns that he carries. He has been with the Bastards for about three years now. He hasn't really forged any friendships but he does know a few people quite well.

Gear: Vel carries two custom revolvers, Hyrda and Chimera (lovingly referred to as his “monsters”). Hydra was inherited from his father and has three barrels, three hammers and holds total of 21 bullets. Because of the multiple hammers Hyrda is capable of firing anywhere from 1-3 shots at a time. Chimera is a revolver that Vel had commissioned on his way south through Akaria, it is capable of loading many different types of bullets, including shotgun slugs.
Beyond the revolvers Vel carries a pair of curved butterfly knives that he uses when up close and personal.
Non-weapon wise Vel has few possessions he cares about, these include his hat, multiple pair of dice (including a set of loaded ones), a deck of marked playing cards, lastly among his possessions (normally in an inside jacket pocket) Vel houses a worn, sepia picture of his parents.

Skills: Vel is military trained, in essence this means he knows how to fight and how to shoot. Further he is trained in a variety of guns, although he prefers his pair of monsters. Beyond this Vel has been using butterfly knives (maybe not in combat but none the less) since he was a small child (9) because of this he is both dexterous with them and proficient using them in close quarters or as thrown weapon. Vel also knows how to pick locks and is skilled at cheating at a variety of card games and other games of chance- attached to this is a incredibly good skill of slight of hand.
Lastly Vel discovered rather late in his life (around the age of 21) that he had the unique capability of certain magics. These primarily include the ability to sense when people are close to death (this sense comes as a sort of heavy stench that only he smells), and an ability to induce fear in others. The latter causes the shape of his pupils to change shape when he is using it, making them become vertical and changing normally brown eyes into a yellow. Inducing fear in others leaves Vel nauseous, dizzy and on the verge of passing out.

Is the whole Scions of Carcaras okay? They're kind of somewhere between Sorrowful Men and Anton Chigurh sort-of-thing. Might make for a good tertiary antagonist.

Don't be so hasty dude

I would personally say that the character is very very shallow, it could really have more added to the personality and skill sections

Yeah, I have to agree with Amalvi here. Cunning and charming ain't much for me to work with.

Gonna third this, otherwise everything appears to be in order! Now to finish up Kaz's bio, and I think that was it?

Oh, and Spade's personality.
