Working in the medical sector desensitises you to alot of life's... lifeness. Particularly so when you have an internal drive to pick apart everything in life down to its basic elements (in the name of science, of course).

Plus, Macey [i]may[/i] or may not have kept a pet tarantula back home. Who knows? She can't remember a whole lot.
