Oh come on! Here he was throwing himself at the demon and it takes off after someone else. Seeing Psy in potential danger, he throws himself in front of Heretic to protect the other defender so she could do her job to keep people safe from thrash. He was the best chance to let heretic have his fun against someone, and he was close enough to the rockpile from the collapsed roof in order to restructure the rock skin if he needed the boost.
