It is set in modern times but because of their extremely remote location they have very limited access to technology of any kind. Lycans do not fair well around technology, they tend to break things that are not old style. Hence the blacksmith, leather-smith, and seamstress. That's why I was saying think old style western. That would be most closely to how they live.
