Macey watched on tentatively as the spider hushed two of it’s snakey heads, treating them like misbehaving children. Okay, so they clearly don’t share the same mind… that’s good. That’s very good. Life just got easier. Just as she was wondering whether her plan would actually work in reality (after all, how many times one had to slay a giant spider snake daily?) Macey noticed Sinthe whiz straight past her, and right onto the monster. He had guts – Macey had to admit that. “Oh you absolute... Genius! Sinthe, that’s actually a brilliant idea!... Is what I would be saying, if you had brought the torch with you.” Macey uprooted the branch from the ground and hurled it towards Sinthe – from it’s higher vantage point, the orange flame seemed to glare even more angrily, illuminating the monster in its full glory. “If there’s a giant fire blazing right on top of the spider blocking out the other heat signatures, those heat tracking snakes won’t have a clue where we are. We’ll just attack from the shadows and bring it down.” Macey couldn’t quite bring herself to admit that actually lighting the spider on fire might work much more effectively – she still wanted to salvage its face. But what the fire had also done, was reveal the spider’s pattern of holes and dents along its back. Macey had no clue what they might be for, but she assumed it to be a weapon of some sort. These thoughts were quickly pushed to the back of her mind, as she sprinted up the miniature hills that arced on each side of the spider. A few shots sniped a serpentine head through its skull, and another through its neck. The snake closer to Macey with the neck wound staggered for a moment, while the head shot stayed completely still, suspended in the air. “Shoot the snakes, Mrs Spider Queen won’t be able to stand. Or attack. Or defend. Easy hunt, we get paid, Leo recognises what an amazing hunter he’s left behind, and we’re one step closer to finding clues about this strange world.”
