NO POWER:
-No magic/powers/no superhuman feats/crazy weapons.
-everything is realistic (no ray-guns or Iron Man suits,Etc).


LOW-POWER:
-There are some powers but they are not over-the-top.
-Enemies who are not assisted by said powers should be able to have a fair match with those who do.
- Characters given powers should have a lengthy cool-down or preparation time to regain the spell/abilities they expended.


MEDIUM-POWER:
-Every Character should have at least Three abilities.
-A non powered/weaponized character should have a hard time fighting this character type.
-They can use there abilities more frequently but have a big drawback or some balancing device to make sure they are not crazy powerful.


HIGH/ULTRA POWER:
-Almost god-like terms of powers in power.
-No mortal should and will stand a chance in a fight
-Completely absurd amount of power in abilities/weapons
-The character that are almost god-like should be kill-able or else it isn't a fair fight(obviously.)

"-No mortal should and will stand a chance in a fight" No mortal should stand a chance against a Medium-Powered character, to be honest.

Also, I feel like there is this large gap of power between your definition of Medium and High Powered individuals. I'm also pretty sure Ultra is typically labeled above High in most characters I've seen, High being that gap you seem to have jumped over. High-powered characters, for me is the fun zone. Much more creativity in power, more loose, and typically where a lot of characters that participate in these tournaments are at. But, they aren't insanely powered either with every power under the sun and capable of destroying universes with a glance. I think High powered might be able to destroy a planet with some elbow grease involved, but not a typical thing to happen either.

How are out of tier characters handled?

Ex: My only complete character was classed at low tier to start, and I have started a fight with him. However, as I study his ability more and more, no alterations taken into account, I see he was a lot stronger than originally intended.

EDIT: Originally expected would be a better phrase.

Please, get a grip on yourself. It was a joke. I find it hard to take you that seriously; enough to actually argue with you, anyways.

I think some characters with magic or otherwise weaker supernatural abilities would still find it difficult to challenge someone without supernatural abilities and a gun. Likewise, someone with a rifle can definitely challenge a low powered character. The nature of abilities doesn't seem to really be an appropriate scale here.

Simply enough, practice. Most people will tell you if they think your character is too tough for their character at the same teir. After a few bouts, you will suddenly start getting a better idea. The Arena is ever-changing, and something considered silly and useless one day could be the debate of tomorrow. You just go with the flow, get a few argument points in to keep the Arena Gods happy, and you're good to go. Above all, don't take any of this ridiculously serious. It's meant to be fun, no matter how much these weirdos argue over petty stuff. Adapt, continuously grow and write, sacrifice your first born children, and just have fun. People way over-complicate things when they join the arena, typically, which is why it stays so small as far as people. When, truth be told, it's just as easy as jumping in the deep in and learning as you go. No one can REALLY tell you how you need to battle or what the tiers are and whatnot. It's all really just opinions and constantly subject to change.

I'd have to disagree on that, and here is the reason why, in my opinion. The fastest human reaction speed is around .101 seconds, done. No argumentation. Now, if we simply pit human against human, one with a gun, one with, say, martial training, they are actually equal. Because of reaction speed. In the time it takes to level that weapon and react, pulling the trigger, the martial artist can react, not to the bullet being fired, but the action of aiming. Now granted, this is using a semi-automatic weapon, automatic changing the game. But at the same time, this advantage only works well when the gunner has distance, due to a lack of skills up close when compared to the martial artist. Yes there are many what ifs, like the gunner getting his weapon point blank at the chest. There is also the martial artist disarming it and other scenarios. The fact of the matter is it is two humans, no powers, relatively equal, based on positioning.

Now give the martial artist a low tier power. Say a fireball. The game just changed up quite a bit.

EDIT: By the way. I'm not saying a gun does not change up the odds of a fight. But it changes it as much as a power, not moreso.

We used to have a more specific and equally flawed tier system, now we have a very general one, my advice for learning tier is simply to look at the other characters posted and scale your character appropriately. Ultimately it doesn't matter what tier your character is labelled as, so long as they are a fair match-up for at least a few characters so you have someone to fight.

Only tournament hosts have to worry about establishing a really specific tier categorization, and good luck to them as I think it's probably the hardest thing to do in Arena.

The thing about guns and not changing up scale you're on is true, however it does.

Simple because there are virtually no unskilled gunmen in the arena. Almost everyone who uses a gun has some type of training in it, be it military, or what have you. Not to mention the crazy reflexes/reaction times, and how people always seem to write everything happening within the blink of an eye.

We used to have a more specific and equally flawed tier system, now we have a very general one, my advice for learning tier is simply to look at the other characters posted and scale your character appropriately. Ultimately it doesn't matter what tier your character is labelled as, so long as they are a fair match-up for at least a few characters so you have someone to fight.

Only tournament hosts have to worry about establishing a really specific tier categorization, and good luck to them as I think it's probably the hardest thing to do in Arena.


It is the hardest thing to do, mainly because someone is always gonna try and slip shit under the radar, someone is always gonna think X is too strong, or Y thinks he's too weak. The arena folks know the general meaning of mid-tier, but some just can't resist going in just above and beyond.

Melon is usually pretty good about keepin' it level, but Khan for instance, Bless Him, is like the level-Boss. Which is fine, but for tournaments it isn't.

Depends, there are a lot of factors to consider in difficulty.

Khan and Skallagrim are both good at realistic combat, they have a good knowledge of what works and doesn't work in real life, coupled with their characters which tend to be strong and very flexible with few outright weaknesses to exploit they are probably the two hardest people to fight. I've not managed to defeat either of them despite fighting them a lot.

Green managed to make me rage-quit a fight which is quite a feat, due to how overpowered one of their characters was, so that could be considered 'difficult' I suppose.

LeeRoy has tough characters, but they tend to rely on brute strength which offers you a lot of opportunity to exploit their weaknesses. Though I'm only speaking from the experience of fighting two of his characters when I say that.

ImportantNobody makes too many characters for his own good, and his character's tend to have incredibly exploitable weaknesses. (Which isn't a bad thing, it just makes them easy to kill.) I think if he just made a solid character that wasn't inhibited by intelligence or was a bit more of an asshole (at least not inhibited by morals) he'd be more difficult to fight.

DJ seems to be good at the close combat martial arts stuff from what I've seen so far, though in our current fight I'm highly sceptical of the backflip, and you will see why when I get around to posting soon-ish.

Haven't seen too much of anyone else, Rilla tends to have very flexible swordsman characters, but I've never been able to complete a fight with him so I'm unsure of how difficult he would actually be. I definitely take him seriously though.

Finally, give me a pistol and a character with low morals and I'll kill you to death. I'm still learning how to effectively use more complex weapons like the sword and I only have a functional knowledge of unarmed combat, but I have a decent idea of what works and doesn't work in real life and I'm pretty good at picking out weak-points to exploit. I haven't lost a whole lot in a relatively fair fight, so read into that what you will.

Just thought I'd give you my perspective, as someone who's fought probably the most people in the current Arena.

From the old days Tantalum, Valeric and Sikako were all good and I enjoyed any fight I was in with them. Lysander was definitely better than me when I fought him, though I'm fairly confident if I re-fought that battle I could have killed him in the first move if I knew now what I didn't back then. Which bothers me greatly.

Raln and Allison are both intelligent with less exploitable weaknesses and are doing much better like you said. I might make one more balanced character like that but the rest will be like normal. And by balanced I mean specifically designed to crush you all. :D
