[@Kronshi] I guess you're right, I've just gotten so used to hearing him referred to as the villain XD.  He's definitely not 100% selfish and has some complex motivations and clearly cares about other gems, but with anger as his strength and compassion as his weakness it's hard to imagine him being a very nice guy, and based on what we've seen I assume he'd be willing to turn cruel sooner than Aqua would to get the job done.  He's certainly not pure evil, but on the character alignment scale he'd probably fall somewhere around 'neutral evil' by default.
