[@Cassowarysaur]
Whether something graphic should be shown uncensored or simply hinted at is a subjective matter, but I think the route they went with Mami's death was fine; showing just enough to make your mind fill in the rest, the same philosophy of horror that the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre runs on (Fun fact: It was a lot more explicit in the manga). Schoolgirls can be interesting characters too when properly written; I fail to see the point of that comment. There wasn't meant to be tension actually; the viewer was supposed to assume Mami would win that fight. All in all, if this episode hasn't convinced you yet, then I suppose the rest won't, since this is as graphic as it's going to get. As a counterpoint to not enough character development, there was a similar character in NGE whose name I don't remember, but becomes a pilot for a very short time before disappearing completely.

It could have been more detailed, actually. There was a way for them to make it look like her body had been bitten into two without being graphic, like at some points in Attack on Titan where you don't actually see them being eaten alive. Schoolgirls CAN be compelling characters, but at this point none of them are interesting or have hidden motives, or relationships with other characters that they want to overcome. The only interesting relationship in the show is the one between . . . oh, the blue haired girl and that grey-haired-totally-not-a-girl boy. Mirama (that's not her name but I'm calling her that anyway) is also interesting since we don't know who she is or who she fights for, but there's been no expounding on that since episode 1 and any of her dialogue with the other characters has been rather boring. She doesn't work well with the characters, but thankfully there's Kyoko coming into the fray now who should actually be interesting. A red-head entering a series a few episodes who's from what I've seen, quite brash and mean, and changes the direction of the show? I don't know . . .
