[@Unraveller] For a Fae to be outside of a Court is not unheard of, but the Fae will be fair game and not have that protection. They will be pressured to join a Court. It's not unheard of, but those that do are hermits and very good at hiding themselves from Fae that would bother them.

That sums it up well. Essentially they keep the Old Ways when they were revered and remembered. Partially out of hubris, partially out of how they like it. Some like Gremlins are more advance but most Fae look down on the human's 'inefficient' technology. There's no reason for THEM to change how they do things just because the humans are playing at running the world.
