She always wears jeans and some sort of hoodie to go with. She has a mild tan. She's not particularly strong but she is quick on her feet. Name: Emerald “Em” Waters Age: 18 Gender: Female Power(s): Intangibility and Reactive Reflexes (Reactive Reflexes is the ability to react to something as it’s happening with little or no thought.) Limits/Weaknesses: Em can’t phase through electricity. Something like an electric fence would kill her where she to try and move through it. She can however fry electronic devices by passing through them but it hurts like hell. When she phases through something the matter will start to become brittle and if it’s something that she phases through often it will eventually crumble but she doesn’t know this when starting college. Equipment: She always carries essentials in a sling bag, a tightly packed sleeping bag, tooth brush and paste, etc. Just in case she ever has to make a run for it again or crash somewhere unexpectedly. Personality: Em is closed off from the world preferring to stick to her sketchbook. She is quick to anger usually assuming the worst in what someone else says. She likes to be left alone and has a fiery temper directed at anyone that doesn’t oblige. In high school most everyone learned to steer clear of her but she doesn’t have that level of protection going to college. During high school while living with her worst foster parents Em developed a smoking habit that she’s still trying to shake. History: Em’s life really started when she was thirteen years of age when her mother, father, brother and herself were driving home from a family night out at a prestigious restaurant. While they drive some idiot ran a red light and smashed into the side of the Waters’ car. The front end was completely smashed with Mrs. Waters dying instantly and Mr. Waters following her after several hours in the ER. Em and her brother Al were lucky, the drunk driver crashed into the front end of the car leaving them with minor bumps and bruises. Al broke his leg and fractured his collar bone while Em broke an arm and had her left hand crushed. She lost her pointer finger in the accident. Afterwards with no other living family Al and Em were shunted into the foster care system. When they were lucky they ended up in the same home but more often than not they were separated. Sometimes the families were nice, people who genuinely wanted to help but so much more common where the greedy bastards who were in it for the grant the government gave them to take care of the foster kids. In these places it usually wasn’t so bad for Em. The people didn’t give a damn what happened to her so she could do what she pleased and go where she wanted at all hours of the night. Of course there neglect also meant that they didn’t feed her very often so Em took to pocketing food or candy from local stores that didn’t know any better. Then things just got worse. The next people that took Em in were cruel. Her new foster father had some sort of hard stressful job that he positively hated and every night he would come home and take his frustrations out on her. He avoided her face to keep from any questions at Em’s school. She got a doctor’s note excusing her from gym class so that no one would see the scars and bruises. Her foster mother was almost worse. She didn’t do any of the beatings herself but she watched and pretended that nothing was happening. She didn’t even help clean Em up afterwards. She just stood there. Em began to think that it was her fault, if she did better in school, if she helped out around the house then just maybe it would stop. But it didn’t. Every night he came home in anger finding fault with the smallest things that Em had done. Em became fearful of what would happen if the people at school found out, maybe other people would start treating her like an easy target. Em started to avoid going home. At first she stayed out late then she started to find excuses to spend nights at friends’ houses. This just made it worse when she finally did come home. One day Em decided that she couldn’t take it any more, she felt like everything was collapsing on top of her and she just needed someone else to take some of the pressure. So she enrolled Krav Maga classes. She spend three months learning and returning home each night to her foster father’s wraith but she never told him where she’d been no matter what he did to her. Finally after three months she thought she was ready. He came come just like he always did, in a temper. Surprisingly enough Em was actually home this time. He laid into her with a punch to the stomach like he always did. This time she was ready, she reacted instinctively. The first rule of Krav Maga was to counter attacking as soon as possible. And she did. When after the blow she reached up gave a good solid kick to his groin. It was a low move but it was in the spirit of her training, targeting attacks to the body's most vulnerable points. When he was down she scrambled to her feet and stomped on his stomach. He was already down there was no reason to attack again but it felt so good to do some damage back. Then she stomped on his forearm and she heard a satisfying crack. There was a cry from the corner of the kitchen. Em looked up and saw her foster mother looking at her in horror. In that moment Em realized what she had done. She had done what he would have, laid into someone who had no hope of defending themselves. Em took two steps back then she turned and ran from the house. She knew that they wouldn’t report her to the police. They were too afraid of what she might say if they did. Em kept going to school, sleeping on the streets and stealing what she had too to live. It was by no means comfortable but she got by. Em pushed herself into her studies trying her hardest at all of her academic work and getting into Stalwart University on a scholarship. Em’s powers manifested a year after she ran away. She’d been caught pocketing a can of soup from a super market but rather than going quietly Em turned and ran as hard as she could. The employee called the police and a cruiser that was already in the neighbourhood gave chase. Em not looking where she was going should have crashed into a brick wall as she ran but instead she passed right through it. At first she was amazed, and then she became frightened. What would people do if they knew? Would she be shipped off to some sort of lab? Em kept it under wraps from her friends at school who she began to drift away from and from everyone else. When she moved to collage Em found a house that had been abandoned for years. The original owner had been some sort of Nuclear War nut from the forties and the house was locked up tight. Em found that with a little effort and practice she could get into it and after some clearing that’s where she made her home. Other:[/hider]
