Application review
You heard right, ladies and gentlemen, it's time for me to accept or reject your characters. Hold on to your butts. Initially, I was planning on accepting four, maybe five characters, but I have been pleasantly surprised by the quality of the character sheets submitted. I couldn't bring myself to trim it down to four, so instead we've ended up with a grand total of eight accepted characters, which brings the size of the party to nine. :toot Which, I realize, is large, but I suppose I also have to account for any potential (but almost inevitable, because this is RPG) drop-outs.
The Accepted:
Blackbird, [@Dead Cruiser]. Quite simply an excellent character, and it gives our party access to maritime travel, a concept I definitely want to explore later in the story. The sheet is well-written with practically no mistakes. Welcome. Balen, [@Peik]. While I'm probably not supposed to pick favorites, Balen strikes me as perhaps the most interesting character submitted. His interest in the deepest, most convoluted part of Elder Scrolls lore appeals to me greatly. Combat is important to every fantasy roleplay, but it is never complete without banter and discourse, which I feel Balen will be able to contribute to a lot. Merci, [@Evestra]. Too cute not to accept. :hehe Seriously though, well-written, interesting history, with a personality that will add a lot to the group. Elayne, [@The Nexerus]. Now here I faced a dilemma, because Elayne and Merci are such similar characters. Then again, every RP needs its Dynamic Duo, to which our two lovely Breton mages have been summarily promoted. On top of that I really couldn't justify rejecting the sheet since it was simply too high-quality. Aenyarin, [@Tuujaimaa]. Every morally ambiguous group needs at least a few characters that lean towards the villainous. Blackbird is one, but one is not enough, and Aenyarin completes the picture. The interesting use of Illusion magic as a weapon for torture and interrogation adds a new and different toolset to our available resources and I can't pass up the opportunity for a little Imperial-versus-Thalmor rivalry between Aenyarin and Hector. Baladas Venym, [@Flagg]. Baladas isn't particularly unique, nor does his skillset add anything special to our party (we already have a conjurer), but the story in the History won me over. I can't reject writing like that! Welcome. :toot Ungrimos, [@MMGiru]. An actual cannibal and our party's resident outdoorsman, tracker and archer. We needed that; perhaps not in dungeons, but you never know where our adventures will take us. It seems being intimidated was unnecessary, Giru, as your sheet meets my standards. :sun Azriel by [@Ghost Shadow] is also accepted. Can't believe I missed that. Any problems I had with his sheet were already addressed earlier with a little editing.
The Rejected:
Jartod, [@Sovi3t]. There is nothing wrong with Jartod as a concept, but he doesn't add anything new to the group, and the quality of your writing isn't up to my standards. Too many inconsistent sentences and grammatical mistakes. On top of that the timeline of your character's history is impossible. Considering he's 28 years old, the Great War happened more than seven years before he was born (it ended 4E 175, and Skyrim takes place in 4E 200; this roleplay a few years after that). This tells me that you haven't done your research properly. Sorry to disappoint you, but he hasn't made the cut. K'Joor, [@decayedAngel]. I know this was your first try at an Advanced roleplay, and to be frank, it shows. It would be nice to have one of the beast races represented in our group, but the same criticism I aimed at Sovi3t applies to you too: your writing isn't good enough for me. If you want to participate in Advanced roleplays in the future, I suggest you study to improve your grammar. Your spelling is fine, but your sentences are sometimes strangely convoluted and incompatible with the rules of the English language. I'm sorry.
The Work-In-Progress sheets
[@Lone Wanderer] and [@Augmented], your time is up. I'm afraid I'll have to inform you that there's no need to finish your sheets. Best of luck in your future endeavors.
What happens now?
I will write the opening IC post either today or tomorrow. I will be gone from Thursday until Monday on a trip to Hungary, so you'll have all of this week to write your first posts. Those of you who are accepted, celebrate here in the OOC. Those of you who I had to reject, I respectfully ask that you leave this thread, but feel free to leave a parting message. Also, please post your accepted sheets in the Characters tab, and add a new line to your sheets: First Impressions. Your characters have all met once before in Cheydinhal. I'd like for you to describe how your characters felt about all the other members of the party. Bad vibes, love at first sight and everything in between. :wub Let's have some fun. :rock
