Let's be honest, it was more half-joking.

Well I can't be the only person who wants to see Thor throw Mjolnir into Frieza's face.

Well, I'm sure I'll be fine without the manliness of two men yelling at each other for thirty minutes before moving.

I second this, I really don't think Anime/Manga has any place meshing with American Comics. That said I'm not a fan of mixing Marvel and DC but I can get over that one.

Eh, I think there's some stuff that would fit well, stuff like the more superhero-ish magical girls (Sailor Moon, Precure, Nanoha et all), super robot stuff (there's even precendence for that, what with Shogun Warriors being part of Marvel canon and being some of the classic super robots), and the straight up western-style superhero stuff like Tiger & Bunny and One Punch Man. Stuff that would make sense in a superhero setting and all.

...Then again, it's kind of hard to fight street crime whilst at the helm of a twenty meter tall titan of steel, as amusing as that thought is. Hmmm.

I'm fine either way honestly, though. Just like to play devil's advocate from time to time. Besides, the main Japanese superhero thing I'd want to take stuff from if I did go that route is live action anyways. XD

Ideally I'd prefer this to be Big Two only but it's not a red line for me. Anime on the other hand definitely would be.

I'd want no part of that.

What few issues I did have with the game have were already brought up in an earlier post. My issues for losing steam had nothing to do with the game was personal. I put myself in a corner and only play a few characters because those are really the only characters inside the comics universe that I can muster character ideas for. My tastes have shifted and it's harder to tell certain stories with certain characters without radically changing that characters DNA. So, I guess... it's me, not you. Turns out, I was the sumbitch all along.

I'd love to say I'm in, but I don't honestly know if I can put my heart into the games the way I used to. Even over on the Hype, where I'm playing three of my favorite characters in all of fiction in a game with a similar concept, I'm struggling with the motivation to stay active. Granted, that's more of a problem with myself than with the games, but I feel like I'm kinda running out of ways to reinvent or mash-up characters and franchises I like.

Oohh I quite like this idea. I generally go for Batgirl (BG) when I join these types of RPs though I get the feeling that a sector of people don't always quite like her. Either way, I'm tentatively interested. Idk what happened with the whole RP failing stuff, so I can't quite jump into the discussion...but I'll be here, lurking.

I understand the perspective of thinking anime/manga additions might give a little too much choice or that they’d struggle in fitting. I think it’s an interesting discussion to mention, but I’ve always been rather neutral towards the concept of singularizing it with the already great swath of Marvel/DC/Indie that we have going here.

I’ll take this into consideration when going forward with the new game.

Understandable, but a shame. Perhaps you’re just having a dry period and it’ll come in time. If it does let me know as I love working with you.

Batgirl would probably be available for play (It'd be Robin's second year as Batman's partner and I have some ideas lined up.) if that's something you would want to do.

Okay, my turn. The following are my own opinions and are really likely to clash against everyone elses.

I found the extensive lore actually quite enjoyable. I may be in a minority, but thats not new. Lore doesn't take away opportunities, it gives you something to build on. The hard part about it is figuring out what exists in classical continuities that you can't shoehorn into the new one. I've taken to a new philosophy. Never tell the same story twice. That's why things get dull for me, seeing the same passionate startups. Naturally I rush to Daredevil out of habit simply because I like him. When I try to do something new its heretical, when I do something normal its redundant. So I don't do anything.

A problem I have with reimagining characters in the ultimate style is the fact that you're supposed to avoid OCs. Like, I've never seen an original supporting character. The problem with this is twofold. On the one hand, if you use too many relevant existing characters (for convenience: ECs) then you're stepping on people's toes by creating excessive continuity and holding up a characyer someone else may have an idea for. On the other, if you avoid using names and just stick to nameless NPCs your writing becomes dull. The characters for your stories are limited by the popularity and exposure to publishing and various corporate writers have touched on them while your own creativity is second.

You can only meet so many people. The spirit of the game doesn't have to be: create an endless list of OCs to seem creative. But allowing that dangerous level of freedom would really give everyone a fair shot of telling a great story about a C-List character and making them one of the greats. Naturally the gamemaster exists to guide progress, but also to stop players from derailing the game. I'd like to see this particular freedom. Make relevant original, supporting characters for those who don't have a thousand enemies and dozens of sidekicks/heirs to the mantle. This would make every single PC important without relying on whoever holds reins over the JL/Avengers to detail the world.

I actually had a game pitch worked out for that above.

Next: Events!

Love them or hate them, events are a staple of comics now. Have the games reflect that by splashing around in the tub. The possibilities are one of the charms of comics. Let's think about this. Sure having the CSA arrive is dramatic. But what if instead of turning evil, everyone turned into Lego's for a week? Then the NewEr Gods/inhabitants of Grant Morrison's fifth world finally show up. Just because events happen on a wide scale doesn't mean the status quo has to change entirely afterwards. I just wish that we could get to the big events faster and get them over with. But in general I'd like for a lot of mini-events to appear rather than a thousand earth-shaking ones. Just keeps it personal.

I have to go back and forth on whether or not I like RPing superheroes at the moment. In truth, I love the concept. I'm just tired of the same old game where the past is all written out and no one can reach to the future or see it coming for a while.

Those are some of my biggest complaints with the Hype-style games I've seen.

Oh, and lastly...

I can't believe I'm actually before Sloth.

I lied.

On Source material.

I think there's been more worrying about what could happen than what does happen. If an app doesn't fit in, reject it and spray it with Raid/Thrawn (for those of you who remember him). Otherwise, why not? I mean, plenty of outside concepts are inspired by comics. Think video games, movies, novels, etc. Those that are popular tend to bring something to the table that existing franchises don't. So much, probably ninety-nine percent of what we get IC is dependant on the applicant's vision. It's up to the player to make it work. If it doesn't, we'll just bug Ruby 'til she deletes it all.

EDIT: I really do have some good DD arcs up my sleeve though, not a rehash of something you've read before. Because, at the end of the day, Matt Murdock is an attorney responsible for dealing with his own costumed friends and enemies.

E2: Manga basically is comics with different cultural influenxes anyway. Even if they were mostly designated to be bound to Asia, they'd still be bringing something new to the games as long as they fit in with real physics and hairstyles.

DEFINITELY do a Halloween themed event for the game.

Comic book games NEED events. NEED. Keeps shit fresh.

Halloween, maybe a Mojoworld, etc, etc. Too much fun to have.
