Earth, a planet once full of magic and creatures, faced its first otherworldy threat shortly after the development of civilization. Demons coexisted with the humans, goblins, fairies, and other beings who lived on Earth with only minor conflict, having traveled from the Netherworld through naturally occurring portals. The Great Demon War began when a being who became known as the Demon Lord united the seven Demon Rexes, the most powerful leaders in the Netherworld, and attacked Earth in full force. The other creatures of the Earth banded together to fight off the demon threat, but were almost defeated. Things looked hopeless until a band of heroes broke into enemy territory and slew many of the Demon Lord's most powerful leaders until defeating the Lord himself in combat. With the Demon Lord gone, humanity was able to cast a powerful spell, one that washed over the planet and drove most of the demon army back to the Netherworld, and created a barrier that stopped the most powerful ones from coming back. Demons called this spell "the outcasting". The effect of this spell dampened the power of magic around most of the planet, leaving only a few "hot spots" of magical power and turning many species against the humans. Several smaller wars followed until humans dominated most of the globe and other creatures were pushed back to the corners, and over time humanity had been lead to believe that these beings were only myths and legends that they themselves created. It was a drastic measure, but it ended the war that consumed the cradle of civilization and the continents surrounding it, and prevented any more demon armies from entering Earth again. On the other side of the planet, thousands of years later, rested a town called Amber Valley, Oklahoma, an island in a sea of wheat and corn. When it was founded it was a place for farmers to buy and sell, but when farms started requiring less people to work them, manufacturing found a foothold in the town. Now that a new mall is opening up, the town is threatened to be changed even more, and a lot of people are starting to worry that soon the town won't look like itself anymore. But a lot of the people in town never looked like how everyone thinks they look. The town of Amber Valley was built upon a magical hot spot, and as a consequence a small fraction of the town's people are secretly not human. Even among the magical beings of the world the Demon Lord is now a figure of legend, but there are those who believe that the Demon Lord could return to life. Among them is ORDER, an organization founded by the descendants of the heroes who defeated the Demon Lord in the past. ORDER had tasked themselves with preventing anything magical from revealing themselves to human knowledge and preparing for the possibility of the Demon Lord's resurrection, but over the millenia the magical world began to police itself, and the promise of another battle with the Demon Lord faded. Their charge was almost forgotten, until they discovered that the Demon Lord had suddenly been born again, his soul transferred to a new body by his patient minions. Or neutral, or with someone else entirely? Species: Check species area for key information. Gender: Age: Appearance: Either a picture or a description is fine by me. Personality: History: If you need to invent any areas of the town for your character, go for it, as long as it's plausible for the setting. Skills: Any talents your character has that could be considered non-magical. Magic: Any magical abilities your character has. There will be opportunities to gain or strengthen powers during the RP, so don't splurge on superpowers just yet. No time travel, mind reading, or seeing the future outside of backstory. Post the profiles in the OOC first, then to the character sheet page after they're approved. If your character is a member of ORDER, chances are they have a parent with magical powers. Here's a short profile you can make for their parent, however there will be things to keep the parents busy other than looking for the Demon Lord's new body. ORDER has gotten very lax over the years. How much your character has been taught about the magical world or how much their powers have been trained is up to you.
Name: Description: Any information you want. Abilities: Both magical and otherwise.

Species Info
Any kind of mythical creature can be assumed to exist in this universe, but I have a set idea for how a couple species function. However I am always open to suggestion about them. You don't necessarily have to read any hiders about species that your character doesn't know much about, as information will be revealed throughout the RP as well.
Not many humans are born able to practice magic, but humans that are can be exceptionally powerful compared to other species with the right training. Compared with other mortal species, Human societies are very large and complex.

Close relatives to boars, Goblins have green skin, long ears, tusks, and yellow sclera. Goblins do not have much hair, though what they have is often in diverse patterns, and baldness is equally common among male and female goblins. Though they have much knowledge of magic and can use naturally occurring sources of it to create potions and magical items, they have no magical abilities of their own. Hybrids between goblins and other species may be capable of magical powers. While they cannot perform magic, pure goblins are prone to mutation, and often develop unusual physical or mental traits. Goblins are natural creatures of Earth, and fought along with humans against the invading demon threat. However, despite their lack of personal magical ability, their culture was much more closely tied to the world of magic than humans, and resented humans using "the outcasting" without their participation. Two wars were fought between goblins and humans, which were both won by humans. After their defeats, goblins agreed to retreat to the corners of the world and keep from the eyes of humans.

Small insectoid creatures that were once so close to Humans they had a symbiotic bond. Fairies rarely have offensive spells, and draw their energy from their surroundings rather than from themselves, so their power doesn't work outside of "hot spots". Royal fairies drew their strength from the bond their species had with humans, and now that their existence is considered a myth, fairy royalty is now bereft of magical powers. However, they are much larger than most fairies in size and live long lives, to a degree depending on their rank. Like goblins, fairies once allied with humans but turned against them after the Outcasting.

Creatures from a realm called the Netherworld, a harsh world with limited resources, plentiful dangerous predators and corrosive fog that eats away at the souls of those who breathe it too long. War is constant, and the only semblance of stability are the seven Demon Rexes who hold the most land and maintain a tenuous truce. There are many types of demons, but though their traits are hereditary they are all still the same species and capable of interbreeding. Some common types of demons include: Imps: Ranging from the size of a thumb to four feet tall. Imps gain power by being near powerful demons, slowly absorbing their excess magic. Imps rarely have combat-specialized magic, and so are looked down upon by other demons. Sirens: The collective term for both Incubi and Succubi. This term refers to any humanoid demon, but are named for a common interaction they have with humans. Fiends: "Miscellaneous" demons who can take nearly any shape, even inorganic ones. Archdemons: Once considered the "royalty" of demonkind, there are very few left alive but those that are can be very powerful. Their appearance can vary wildly but is often bestial, or combined from multiple animals. They are very long-lived and can be very powerful both physically and magically.
Djinn (genies), Archons (angels), Infernals (lava monsters), and Dragons (dragons) are also species with already determined characteristics. You should PM me before creating a character that involves any of them. Not a lot of exposition so far, but the RP is about exploring and investigating a secret world, so I tried to only mention what was necessary to make characters and get started, but feel free to ask if anything needs to be explained. Additionally, there is a lot that I'll be tailoring to your characters, such as your fellow classmates, so I'll get started on those after I see some character sheets. How much you see of the Demon Lord from the beginning will depend on how many evil characters get made, and I'd like to see a couple of ORDER kids first, enough to form a decent party of heroes. That being said I won't stop you from following your heart.
