Ah, true. And I didn't want to bring up the whole it has to be a one item/sentence outside of quotation marks, or it could potentially be its own paragraph again, even from the same speaker, but that's just what I learned in like, middle school or something, maybe highschool.

I don't think that the problem was it being long, but more about it not giving the eye a place to know where to pause, thus becoming disengaging or off-putting solely on how it looks and not exactly what it says.
