Dice Rules: Now Edge of the Empire is a narrative dice game. There is no simple pass or fail here. The dice give narrative density to the game. A failure can be matched with benefits that sweeten the vinegar, or a success with a despair that sours a sweet victory. Typically any Advantage symbols gained on a test are spent by the PCs. But for the speed and simplicity of the game the DM will spend them to aid your story (unless there are a lot of them). If a Triumph occurs (or a lot of advantages that equate to a triumph), then the player is allowed to interpret it as something really really cool being done by the character, a cool effect occurs, or whatever else the player can imagine. The player will PM it to me and I will approve (unless it is too outlandish). Any negative dice symbols are interpreted by the GM. -Dice symbols- Do read the Edge of the Empire beginner sheet I provided as it explains what these symbols mean. For brevity sake I will leave letters to represent the symbols as follows Triumph = = T Success = = s Advantage = = a Despair = = D Failure = = f Threat = = t -An example of a skill test- Qa'Ra is running along the rooftops of Markarth when he needs to make a long jump to reach the next set of buildings. There has been a recent snow and the ground is a little wet. Following him are three guards in hot pursuit. Qa'Ra picks up speed and tries the jump. His Agility is 3 and his Athletics is 2. Thus he starts out with 3 green (ability) dice and upgrades 2 of them to yellow (proficiency) dice. He will roll with 1 green and 2 yellow dice. The gap is not to far, but still not a leisurely hop, thus I add 2 purple (difficulty) dice. The snow is wet and slightly slippery, this I will add a black (setback) dice. I roll the dice and get the following symbols (after matching symbols have been cancelled out): s s t t (2 success and 2 threat) Qa'Ra makes the jump and is still on his feet, but the landing was not the smoothest as possible, -2 strain. The soldiers follow suite, but there bulky Armour weighs them down. They roll 2 green against 1 purple and 1 red (challenge) dice. They roll: f (failure) The guards either stop before the edge or jump short and fall bellow. Posting order: Due to the narrative nature of the game. I will allow 1 post per player indicating what they want to do, I will then post the dice tallies and roll results followed by the narrative effects. If there is a triumph I will ask the player to PM me their idea for approval, I will either post the triumph outcome or leave it to the player. We then will start the next round. A round may last a few seconds (in a fight) or minutes and hours (searching, travelling, gossiping, smithing, etc) If I feel that one player is getting ahead of the others by performing a time consuming task, I may state that the player does not get to post for the next round (as they are engaged for that period of time). If a player drops out or does not post in a few rounds, I will simply NPC them until they return or forever. ------------ We moveā€¦ PS. Play your characters like you never been to Skyrim (or is so only briefly). I know we all played the fucking video game, it still means we cannot play like the world is new
