The effects of his staff and Chigoku Inkan: Yokusei no Gogyō [Verbatim Sealing: Five Elements Suppression] do not "get along," and thus activating the technique will nullify the effects of his staff. Otherwise he potentially his an impenetrable defense that can last for an undisclosed amount of time.

Once that is done he is accepted.
