Well, they're described as eagles... and no, the Aves aren't anthropomorphic. They hold their weapons in either their beak or wing (depending on whether or not they're flying... they typically hold shields and secondary weapons in their talons while flying.)

Actually... after a bit of thought, owls might make a nice sort of sub-race for the aves. A sort of nocturnal aves, if you will.
