[@Vocab] The mating mark is explained in the Shape-shifter drop down in my Species post at the top of the page. It is a sort of tattoo that shape-shifter males carry to identify themselves. It develops shortly after puberty in males. The more complex and extensive the mark the stronger and higher ranking the male is within society. When the male comes into physical contact with his destined mate she will immediately develop a perfectly matching mark on her body. The more exposure to one another they have the more the marks will fill in with color until they become almost metallic in appearance. This gives a clear indication to who is and is not mated. So as Joseph is currently unmated his would be black and grey still. I suppose I was a bit unclear when I was explaining what a false-lycan is. They are simply Shifters who's form resembles that of a true Lycans and though males of the two species are easily told apart a female would be nearly impossible to tell apart until she was mated and acquired a mating mark. Shifters can only conceive offspring with their "destined mate". So Joseph would be a shifter, he would simply have an odd form.
