A couple paragraphs is fine. No less than that, but no limit on if you want to write more.

Your character should present themselves however you imagine a 16 year old boy would present himself in that situation. As your characters wouldn't have any knowledge of the Dragon Riders customs there isn't a right or wrong way to do it.
