I'm personally of the idea that the amnesiac path would be best. Simple, plenty of room for development, and who doesn't love amnesia?
If we're going to set the RP around the Black Death, at the beginning would probably be best. Considering we're in England, we'll have a good amount of time before it affects us at all, and allows us to view the pandemic personally when it arrives.
