For King and Country !

War. War never changes. As the United States of America suffocated beneath a blanket of radiation and toxic fumes, so too was the rest of the world drowned in atomic inferno. The United Kingdom, a monarchy struggling amidst the harsh realities of a world drained of of its natural resources, fell to the same weapons of mass destruction that had ripped the rest of Planet Earth to tainted shreds, and became lost in the ensuing shroud of darkness.

Life, however, endured within the carcass of the island nation, skulking through the pale bones of the old world. The people of the UK rose from the ashes of the British Commonwealth, and set about rebuilding their shattered lives, amidst the nuclear devastation which had swept across the globe.

But what awaited the survivors in the barren wastes above was far more bloody and savage than anything they could’ve possibly imagined...Because war, war never changes.

OOC

King and Country takes place within the Fallout Universe, in the ruins of the United Kingdom. It is the year 2277, and the people of Britain have suffered through two centuries of vicious hardships, in order to make it to where they are today.

After the point of Divergence (Estimated to be around December 1946) The United Kingdom underwent a wave of right wing extremism, with british patriots hell bent on retaining what little of their once globe-spanning Empire remained. The constant threat of nuclear annihilation put the Western powers at odds with each other, and when the European Commonwealth invaded the Middle East, the United Nations collapsed entirely.

It wasn’t too long before the Commonwealth itself was dissolved, and Europe descended into a bitter civil war.

Striking an agreement with a subsidiary company of RobCo Industries, the Great British government set about developing vast underground ‘Havens’, not dissimilar to the United States Vault Shelters, in an attempt to protect the general public from the inevitability of nuclear devastation. Unbeknownst to most, the UK had become just as much a playground for mad scientists as the US, and was made subject to both twisted experiments within the underground Havens, and copious amounts of the Forced Evolutionary Virus.

The bombs fell, and the United Kingdom was destroyed.

Over the next few hundred years, the village of Silvershaw sprung up around in the husk of Haven 18, amidst the ruins of what had once been rural Surrey. Silvershaw has enjoyed a few years of relative peace, having established trade routes with the nearby town of Oking, but weeks have past, and there has been no word from the settlers in Oking.

Bringing together a group of Silvershaw’s strongest warriors and smartest minds, the Mayor of the town sends the fellowship off into the ruins of Oking, in an attempt to piece together what events have transpired.

So, any of you lovely lot interested?

Same story with me, might not have the time but interested. Thinking of something of a mix of Jack Churchill and Alexander Anderson or something very Redcoat-y.

Can I ask what does the isle look like right now in terms of Scotland and Ireland as well as how big religion is?

Sounds good.

What's left of Scotland and Ireland are off doing their own thing, but it is feasible for characters to have their origins there. Religion isn't very wide spread, but still exists in specific locations (cities with Cathedrals etc).

Mind having a character from the good ole' USA. Possibly the survivor of a shipwreck of a failed expedition or some sort of desperate refugee. Tempenny made it across the ocean, maybe some down on his luck wastelander could too.

It would require a particularly strong CS, but I'm open to the idea, in practice

Even though I think you're losing out on a lot of the atmosphere of the Fallout series by placing this outside of the United States, and you seem to be making post-war UK a lighter version of post-war US, so it makes me wonder why you're bothering placing this in another country at all. In any case, I'm always open for a decent Fallout RP, so I'll join regardless.

I have greater creative freedom using a non -established setting, and there will be noticeable differences as the story progresses.

If you'd rather join a standard Fallout RP I'm sure there are others floating about, but if not then thanks for the interest.

I could only comment on what was in the introduction, so I figured that there would be a great deal of plot variation as we go along. Besides, I'm more than happy to see a Fallout RP that isn't buckled down by yet another Brotherhood/Enclave plotline. I'll be looking forward to this.

It'll still be Fallout at its core, but with less of the Knights in shining armour we've come to see in the later instalments. Glad to have you onboard.

I think modern-British dystopias are almost cliched now, but there's quite a lot of intrigue to be had by making the UK have undergone a similarly destructive nationalism and imperialism as the United States in the Fallout continuity, and be more of a pastiche of its 1940s and 50s self. It's not particularly far-fetched, recently, nationalistic tendencies have seen a resurgence here in Britain, and given how downtrodden the country was following WW2, it's not a stretch to think these attitudes would have been strong then.

Anyway, @Kingfisher, do you have any idea where exactly in Surrey you want this to take place, relative to the modern day? Surrey has no cities or significant settlements to speak of, so I'm a bit confused as to why it might have a vault, and how likely it is that a community would be able to thrive in such a sparsely populated area. Would there be a chance to visit the ruins of London, or Portsmouth and Southampton, or Birmingham further north?

The game is set in Ottershaw (Silvershaw) which is near the ruins of Woking (Oking). We have Guildford not too far away, which will feature as a main hub, and Brookwood nearby. As the game progresses (assuming it gets off of the ground) the group will travel down the train line from Woking to Waterloo, so we'll pass Serbiton and such.

This made me think of something @Kingfisher, will we be getting a map of this new UK in its new, fashionable fallout look with new towns and locates and markers for old down (since christ I'm not from Britain and could only put London on a map, that's the part north close to Scotland and Middleheim right? :P) or will it just be a map of the UK with a filter over it?
