Edit: Just thought I'd give you a bit of background on the structure of the trial: Trials in Nyhem are carried out with either the king or a member of the High council as the judge. Some more important trials will also have a jury made up of nobles elected by whoever is presiding over the trial. However for a trial like this Aurelia will not need a jury. The trial itself will take place in small court room used for judging smaller crimes. Important trials would be carried out in the throne room and would have the king as judge.

This explains a lot, the latter part that is. Yes, I didn't think it would be fair either if Aurelia was to find Claus guilty, no matter how much it may bother her or weigh on her conscience. If anything, I think Aurelia would be more reluctant to rule in his favor, especially after consulting with Duncan.
