Light IS radiation. But I suppose they're somewhat working on thermal damage so it's IR-Red-Visible light spectrum. Don't want to use an X ray and irradiate half of the crew XD

Although if you don't like the idea of a depillatory laser on steroids burning through stuff in short bursts I guess I could make a futuristic ballistic weapon who uses EM rather than chemicals to propel bullets (Gauss or Railgun designs).
