I'm talking to Angus to try and get a quote on the Djibouti. Might be useful to get a base idea on how much he'll want to be paid.

Okay, but still look around for other people. If we can get somebody who doesn't focus on caricaturized or cartoony art, it would definitely be preferable.

Also, porting the conversation-starter from the last page.

In the mean time, I think we should list of some of the iconic besides Djibouti that could be arted so we can have everyone weigh in at least. Not including the shit Aaron or somebody else has already covered of course.

Some other possibilities.

1: Viktor and Juhani anything. Seriously, the importance of that story line in the development of what PoW became should not be understated.
2: Canadian beach landing in Cali. Not a serious scene, but still fucking iconic.
3: Assassination of Tejero. Big scene, fairly momentous.
4: Battle of Milan. Probably the most enjoyable pre-Spanish-Ethiopian War battle in the entire RP.
5: Though the big China scenes are pretty well covered by Aaron's art, the general ambience of the Chinese Opera captures a lot of China in one swath, in terms of setting and important characters.
6: To me, Spain's iconic image is wealthy people and politicians partying on zeppelins above Madrid.
7: Sevan. I might be partial to Sevan because I spent so much time writing there, but I think it deserves a little art.
8: I don't even know if this is canon anymore, but as it strange as it sounds, the Spanish and American battle during the blockade of Boston is iconic to PoW for me. An African agent watching from a telephone booth as Spanish and American ships duke it out in the distance, and a New English freighter chugs forward full of near-privateers... I dunno, I think that is a great symbol of early MCF precipice really.

Here's a question for you PoW lifers:

I've got a shit ton planned out for Britain, like twenty-twenty five posts ahead of where I'm currently at, and even though I find it helpful to have it all planned out like that I also find it stifles me a bit. For those of you that have been playing for years/since the game began, how far ahead do you plan? How do you stop yourself from feeling like you're just going through the motions?

I know Vilage has been planned out for years, and I'm starting to launch some stuff I had in mind since we were on the MCF.

Though I personally don't plan very meticulously. I get an idea on a direction and a goal and I write towards it. I find this makes it easier to write around anything that might be in the area and include it without totally obstructing myself.

I don't mean to plan too far ahead, but what happens is I get ideas I like so much that I feel like they have to happen. Part of the reason I've continued to be interested in PoW is that, so far, when I come up with an idea I like I pretty much always do make it happen. But what I actually have planned out is somewhat scattered.

So, for instance, I have a pretty good idea of what I want Africa to look like after the war - not specific borders mind you, just the general shape of things. I know who I want to survive the war. I had some character death scenes pretty much planned out since the MCF days sometime. I even know, though we will never get this far, what personality Prince Tewodros is going to have when he is an adult. But I didn't figure out what Sahle was going to be doing in Russia until sometime earlier this year. And I didn't know what his personal part in the Russia storyline was even going to be until probably about a week ago.

Sometimes I have these random ideas that come out of nowhere, like when I am in the car or taking a shower, and I'll stick them in because I like them. An example of this is Revolution-Town in that last Akanni post. That came from me suddenly imagining some little African commune with walls that have communist leaders' faces painted on them. I have no clue where that is going to go, but I'll work it out later because I usually seem to. Another example is the hallucinatory dreams I give Sahle - those are usually just weird scenes that that I randomly imagine of nowhere, and I just roll with them because I like them. I just wrote one for a Sahle post coming up here soon, even though I was already busy writing up the lead-up to the Battle of Dire Dawa. I just liked it so much I had to jot it down before I forgot any part of it.

So that's kind of how it works for me. I have a general idea of where things are going, I have all these little ideas that are just things I like and want to fit into Precipice, and the rest of the RP for me is weaving all of that together so it makes sense. It doesn't feel like just going through the motions for me because I genuinely enjoy writing this shit. It's like my version of gardening or something - I plant the seeds, go through all the work of growing them, and get that satisfied feeling when I step back and see the end result.

While I'm no Vet, my shit for Italy has had a basic outline of where I wanted to go with it about 12-15 posts in advance.

Problem with me is since I'm extremely busy at work during this time of year and that gives me time to think about all my shit that makes zero sense and thus scrap entire story lines and redo them. Rinse and Repeat a few times and here I am.

Planning ahead is something I want to do and enjoy doing, but then noticing how convoluted and terrible it really is makes me second-guess everything at the moment. Plus, seeing all the CRAZY ASS SHIT on the wiki that happened with previous people's nations really makes me not want to be just another repeat fucker-upper.

I can try and finish this goddamned post I've had sitting in my inbox for January the 6th, no problem. I can't say it'll be an important post but it'll probably be pushing the Turks off of the Square and knocking the statue down.

I might as well as join the event as well, even known I wasn't around six years ago.

And I don't usually plan ahead in roleplays, because most of them that I am in die within the month or even the week. It is kinda of sad that I haven't been in a roleplay that has lasted for six years or even three months.

I mean, I doubt most people have been in one that's spanned over half a decade. Don't worry about it. It's designed so that people can just pick up and go.

For me the personal best for a game was eight years. That game reminded me a lot of PoW in that we were all high school kids when we started and stayed with it through school and college and we ended up drifting apart because of actual real life and the fact that we did almost anything we could do inside the confines of the medium.
