[@Akayaofthemoon] I always imagined the temple statue being what the crystal gems would be if they all fused together and that that fusion was what they used to win some kind of final battle to defend the earth against Homeworld, and it would probably make sense if Homeworld took a huge loss in such a battle.  Time will tell if they killed/defeated a diamond in it, or if I'm even right.
