Short bio (+personality): Lyla was born the bastard daughter of a Grangel vampire and a noblewoman, who were both executed as soon as she was born. She was spared from death by Marc Ravnos, who wished to study the curious nature and growth of a dhampir. Being a half-breed, she was branded with the sign of the abomination and given the surname “Nightshame” to forever remind her that she was not wanted, that she was a freak of nature even in the cover of night where no one could see her.
Growing up, she faced serious adversity as she was always bullied, excluded, and mocked. To add to her despair, she was very bad at simple tasks, such as cooking or cleaning, and she was often berated by her superiors. One day, Ravnos, having grown somewhat attached to the girl, noticed her plight and let Lyla assist him with alchemy. Surprisingly, she ended up being very proficient in the alchemical arts. To further her talents, Ravnos decreed that she would study this art and cultivate her knowledge under his own wing. Years later, she has now exceeded Ravnos’ expectations of her, and she has garnered the rank of Kyres. It is Ravnos’ intent to have her try to teach those willing to learn alchemy.
However, isolation and the trauma of being hated have caused her to be in a constant state of anxiety, wherein she can’t talk to anyone directly. She either covers her face in some way (usually with a book) or looks away. She’s a very docile woman, but she is easily frightened and generally has a timid demeanor to her. The only person she can speak comfortably to is Elder Ravnos since he has always been a kind, father-like figure to her. Despite being offered a chance to live in a room with other vampires, Lyla has opted to stay in the broom closet she grew up in.
