Well, the way I pictured it was more of a lashing or whipping type deal as well as the throwing. So for instance, rather than throwing a lightning bolt that would cut the tree after a few, it would more be a factor of slicing at it say 6 or 7 times until you reached through to the other side. I'd be happy to nerf this if you still think it's a problem.
