Well, the idea is that if I WERE to connect, that would be the result. It's the same as saying "If my sword were to connect, it would do this."

But I didn't want to put a "if it connected" in since it would ruin the flow. If you wanted to contest it, I absolutely would go with the contest. It's not a connection unless you say so. Again, it's just to keep the flow of my post ^_^
