Neato! I like where these are going. So, how extensive d'you want our responses to be - should we write in the reactions of some of the characters you're written to whatever our characters do, or should we leave it at strictly controlling our characters?
So, a few questions so I can make a good post:
1) Are whatever has taken over the capital clearly not humans?
2) Are their numbers visibly superior to Ioannes' army? I'm imagining his consists of, I don't know, five thousand or so, as a random guess.
3) Do they have any sort of naval strength that would be visible if Ioannes made a trek around to take a look?
Cool beans, working on my post now. Just two questions for the purpose of good-post making:
1) What's the girl's name?
2) What does 'touched by the North' mean? Is it something my character would know?
Thank you kindly.

It seems to me like this is a decent opportunity to throw Emily and the Crimson Company together, as they're both in the Borean woods and the Company is having mutant-related problems (at least, that's how I read it).
Of course, that's wholly up to you guys and where you want the plot to go - I have absolute faith in our masterful GM's plot, so if he has something else in mind, I'll go along with it. Same goes for VoiD, of course.
In any case, this Ryan business is intriguing. I'll need to consider Emily's next move...
