Belle watched Hachi leave with the woman and let out the breath she had been holding. That had been close to something bad. She bowed to Felix as he ordered her to clean up. Apparently now that she was no longer a guest the pleasantries had ended. She was still going to have a talk with him about how he treated Rex. The little snake didn't deserve such abuse. No one did. Looking over the ice Belle cocked her head in thought. How to clean this up? If she waited until it melted there would be water everywhere, which would take longer to clean and cause water damage. She searched for, and found, a knife to use as a scrapper and set to work scrapping the ice off and putting the chunks into a bucket. Once the bucket was full she tossed the contents outside before resuming. It was a long and painstaking process. Her hands became red from the cold and began to hurt before going numb. But she continued. If she didn't do it well enough and quickly enough Felix might fire her and then there would be no money for her father. When working at a particularly large piece of ice she pushed to hard with the knife. It suddenly broke through the ice to the other side where she was bracing her hand. She let out a yelp of pain as the knife cut her hand. Kneeling on the floor, she held her throbbing hand in her lap. A long cut ran along the back of her left hand, blood dripping onto her apron. She bit her lip, trying not to cry but feeling her eyes getting misty. She had to finish. If she didn't... if Felix saw her just sitting here... A single tear, like a shimmering pearl when it caught the light, slid down her cheek.
