Did, @Carantathraiel, albeit in the future I will return to it, this time for good. I had an extended conversation with both a male snow leopard and female snow leopard and the female jaguar this past week on a visit - the tiger on the other hand, while not talkative, was very social, of course after he had to remind me his enclosure belonged to him.

I do not know the story in particular, but some inherently can just bond with animals instantly.

How lovely :)
I would love to just see big cats like that up close. I love cats. Always have.

For as large and deadly as they are, they remain surprisingly amicable... provided one minds their manners. I only visit them on their schedule, as an example - right before feeding time when they are most receptive and willing to interact. Once fed it becomes nap time for the rest of the day, after all.

I am unaware, but I do feel quite privileged to have the interaction with them that I do, even at distance. One of the more amusing things is to watch how they interact with anyone else that comes near the enclosures. There's surprising variance in who they're willing to even come near, or be friendly with, let alone speak to.

That's not specific to cats, I don't think. I know elephants, wolves, and dolphins all have good memories for the people who are kind to them. There was even a story about a deer who would return to the home of the man who rescued her.

Not specific at all, but the sudden change in demeanor and the apparent inability of most people to read feline body language would likely result in a lot of them getting killed if it were not for the fence. That or turning their back, which the tiger is exceedingly partial to becoming aggressive toward. He becomes, from one moment, tolerant and perhaps even social, to crouching and quickly stalking - getting as close as he can manage to his fence line and nearly pressing his muzzle to the metal or ports.

i have read that tigers like to ambush, so looking one in the eyes makes it lose interest. I suppose you turning your back on it would be a bad idea. Haha. Note to self, if I'm ever put in the area of a tiger.

The ambush is the favored tact of any feline, but tigers have a particular pleasure in it. They could easily be your closest of friends one moment, and then the next the hunt is on. Either way, it is all worth it - not hard to prevent once you learn the essentials, hah.

:) I think you're fortunate to work in such an environment.
Meanwhile, if things go well on my end I'll be pricking people with needles.

I only visit now, sadly, but everything I learned in times past I still can use. They're not my felines, but they've already adopted me into their world, even when I do briefly see them. Only a few more years until I can return to that life.

As for you, @Carantathraiel, you almost make that sound like it is a bad thing.

I am certain you will be just fine - you've seen some of the people that pass these "difficult" sort of examinations, I am sure.

I am worried.

I remember and learn the most random shit, too. Completely pointless.

I actually know that one. Duffel is a Belgian town in which the cloth used for the bags were made. I googled this years ago. I don't recall why XD

It may have come up in conversation at a pub, once. Even I can't fathom why i'd look that up out of context.
Or maybe it was just one of those random facts pages i read a lot XD i really don't know.
