When not aboard his ship Scales is a matured dragon who tries his best to be amiable. However, when aboard his ship he becomes overprotective of his crew-mates and ship.

Background: Without a doubt the ancestors of Capt. Scales contained Seawater in their veins, as all members were born talented sailors, whether in their mother's womb or in the sea. Vermilion as a squirt spent his younger years accompanying his old man Captain Ivory Scales to perform fishing, trading, and freighting across unsafe waters with his ship (Which he would eventually inherit) affectionately named“Melora's Vengeance.”However, to Scales those years spent have long gone and passed.
