You attacked people who came in peace, showed no signs of backing down even against the threat of unknown force, and quite frankly there wasn't the time to make a large explanation, beyond the fact that Ruiko didn't get much of an explanation beyond 'It doesn't matter if it hits, just use it if you have no other choice.' It was right after the time skip. How is the fact that it was 'the worst time' my fault? Also, I should note that no defense is impenetrable. It's just a matter of whether Nova is willing to pay the cost to get inside. And given the track record of WH40K, I would make that bet.
