Far as I know, they were lances in SAO, tho

Sachi even used one while training with Kirito (if it was not her, then it was someone in the Midnight Cats) 

Then there are also axes and Sinon was able to use a bow in Hollow Fragment, which took place in the original Aincrad so I dunno, really.
