Alucard wondered if he should ask his question while she was still in a good mood from the steak she obviously loved or dare waiting until after she tried the wine, which she might still hate. 

If he asked after and she liked the wine it was good, if she didn't it was bad. If he asked before then she still liked the steak, and might judge her response on the wine's flavor, but also might not. Well simple enough when looked at that way. Quite a sobering thought. The reason he hadn't asked Iravis herself was mostly that he'd anticipated her either already having a partner, or murdering him for being presumptions enough to try. Which admittedly this one might do as well, but the odds of such a... confident person finding a partner so soon seemed rather low and at this point she was well bribed. At least if worst came to worst the medical facilities here were apparently fantastic.
