Name: Heinz Gender: Male Age: 22 Appearance Heinz stands at about 6'1 and is both bony and lanky. He has a sharp and severe facial structure but soft green eyes. He has a freckled complexion and unkempt, choppy brown hair. His demeanor is such that he never draws attention to himself, and frequently blends into the background. He gives off an air of caution and appears stand-offish at first, but he has a great smile when the occasion calls for it. Personality Though he comes off as withdrawn, Heinz is extremely perceptive and cares immensely about those he trusts. He is not a natural leader and can behave independently, sometimes to the point where he is unpredictable to others. However, his actions are usually very intentional, and he is almost always two or three steps ahead. His motives aren't always clear, and he doesn't share much about himself. Though these traits raise red flags for some, he would rather let his actions speak for him. He favors personal sovereignty and will often mistrust those who seek to assert power over him. When this is threatened, he can act rashly in order to preserve it. He is stoic, but not cynical, and still has a lot of youthful optimism. Also, because of his young age, he has moments where he seems surprisingly naive - such as in his interactions with members of the opposite sex. He also can be immature, in the sense he often runs from his problems instead of confronting them. His immaturity also shows in his over-reliance on his abilities as opposed to rationality, leading him to behave recklessly. Additionally, he has not yet developed a strong belief system, and he can be easily swayed towards others' beliefs if they are persuasive enough. Background Heinz, born Thomas Zuñiga, originated in Three Waters, a small but wealthy realm that was built on the ruins of an ancient city, whose rusting steel structures still emerge from the landscape. The realm was located strategically at the point where two rivers merged into a third, and thus their role as a trading hub was eminent throughout the Hundred Realms. However, leadership in Three Waters was weak and neighboring realms were positioning themselves in order to absorb it. However, the unexpected occurred and Three Waters was consumed by a deadly water-borne plague that wiped out a majority of its population and even impacted realms that lay far downstream of it. Three Waters fell into chaos within a span of months and later fell when the remaining healthy population - a few hundred out of many thousands - fled. The realm is now considered "lost", in that it's uninhabitable. Having no surviving family, and having endured the unimaginable, he chose a new name, based on ancient inscriptions frequently emblazoned on structures around Three Waters - shedding his old identity in favor of a new one. He then head in the opposite direction of the other survivors and struck out on his own. For the first few months, he travelled alone and relied on his intelligence and ability to improvise multiple types of ranged weaponry to survive. Desperate for employment, he took a lucrative but dangerous job as a courier, delivering letters and packages between isolated villages. Though the work was both dangerous and grueling, Heinz proved to be a quick learner and soon earned the right to be trained as a mounted courier - garnering his own horse in the process. Heinz currently lives a precarious and transient existence, and though he longs for a sense of security and purpose, he enjoys the freedom of riding alone through the plains, and takes pride in his ability to fend for himself and earn his own living. Motivation Heinz longs for a sense of purpose, and the prospect of exploration and discovering new things has always appealed to him. His less clear motivation is simply for a sense of community and belonging. He's been on his own for a long while, and being a part of something like this expedition would give him the opportunity to engage with others - something he has little experience with. Equipment Due to the lifestyle that he's used to, Heinz travels light. He carries the essentials in terms of supplies but places a special emphasis on ensuring that he's well armed with a variety of options. His personal weapons include a slingshot, a number of knives, and a longbow - of which he's particularly fond of. He is also skilled at improvising ranged weaponry. His attire dark in color and unrestrictive, enables him to move quickly and silently. He often wears a dark hood, to both protect him from the elements, as well as to further obscure his face. Additionally, his companion is a hardy, semi-wild black horse named Bear - a large mustang who possesses strength and stamina, but a stubborn and unpredictable temperament. Bear is deferential towards Heinz, but aggressive towards others.
