The _
Species: The _ is a race of enormous, space-dwelling creatures, united in purpose by a psychic hive mind and spawned from eggs lain in stars. There are a number of distinct 'classes' that have adapted for different functions, much like ant or bee colonies have drones, warriors, queens and so on. The _ resemble organic space vessels, and their bodies are laden with what amount to defensive weaponry and countermeasures. The _ are an ancient race, having existed in the universe for as long as anyone can imagine; yet have been seldom encountered outside of lost vessels that have stumbled into their territory of space. In recent years, there have been increased sightings of “fleets of bio-ships” in fringe corners of the galaxy. The cause for this sudden increase in visibility is unknown. It is unknown whether the bio-ships of the _ have distinct genders, or if they are capable of self-fertilization. They lay their eggs within the nuclear heart of stars, and the eggs absorb the energy they produce. When the _ reach maturity, they hatch and leave their stars; a process which accelerates the star's age and can render considerable damage to nearby celestial bodies. Description of Government: It is speculated the _ are connected via a psychic hive mind, which resonates from the bulk of huge “queens” that form the core of their fleets; thus, they have no discernible language. These queens direct the actions of the other bio-ships and are the largest among them. It is unknown whether all _ throughout the galaxy share a collective consciousness, or whether separate fleets act independently of each other. If, in the off-chance a _ created a psychic link with a sentient being, one can only guess what sort of information it might pass on. Description of Military: There is no true _ military, but there are specific strains of _ that seem to be adapted for combat. Sentient races may assign identifying names to varying classes based on their size or apparent firepower:

Battleships: The largest of the _ “war strains” can be observed dispersed throughout the formation of a fleet. It is likely that the queens relay messages to the battleships, which then pass the directions to groups of lesser classes. These boast the heaviest bio-cannons and form the backbone of the fleet.
Cruisers: These are the chief fighting strains of the _ fleets, having considerable offensive power and natural defenses. While they likely take directions from battleships, they show some degree of autonomy, suggesting that they revert to natural instinct when psychic links are severed. They are aggressive creatures and will fiercely defend their fleets. They employ a mix of long and short-ranged defensive mechanisms, and seem to come in multiple varieties.
Destroyers: Smaller than cruisers, destroyers often swarm in groups and linger near their larger brethren. They boast an impressive array of bio-armaments; principally glands resembling missile pods that release some form of organic warheads.
Technological Overview: As the _ are entirely organic, they have no true reliance on technology. However, many of their bodily functions operate in a similar manner to machines and tools sentient races can identify. They have discernible tubes along their girth that act as engines, along with glands that produce resilient coating, reminiscent of force-shielding. They have apparatus along their bodies that function as weapons; these range from cannon-like digits that propel concentrated beams of unknown bio-material, along with folds that release what seem to be parasitic spores that bore into threats. The _ exhibit the ability to camouflage their carapaces to match the star-specked blackness of space; rendering them extremely difficult to see. _ bio-ships have the apparent ability to warp as a means of FTL travel; expanding space behind them and concentrating it at their front. They glide along the distortion waves caused by the warping of space, while not actually moving themselves. How they achieve this feat is a mystery. As living organisms, they emit no electromagnetic signatures. How they perceive space around them and detect objects is not known. Cultural Overview: No one is sure if the _ share any semblance of culture between themselves. History: See “Species.” Other:
Very, very WIP, but I'm sharing what I've got. I don't even have a name for them yet, but you can see just what I've got cooking.
