Alexander groaned quietly to himself. What had happened? He was blinded briefly by an overwhelming light, but it quickly left him to shine on something else. Larion, Alexander realized, barely recognizing his companion with his still teary eyes and the excessive wrappings of chains. His throat was dry and his lungs felt heavy, barely able to make noise. Struggling to pull himself towards the shackled lizard Alexander tried again, somewhat more intelligibly this time, but not much more than a whisper. "Wait!" Where in the nine was he? What was going on? His attempts to remember anything only resulted in drawing an utter blank.
