So my character needs to be affiliated with Jedi or Sith? What if he's neither but chose to help the Jedi rescuers as a favour to one of the Jedi he befriended in the past (or maybe saved his life)?
Yes, he has to be either a Jedi or Sith. Again, I’m making this clear as I get the impression you’re assuming he has to follow the expected cliche produced by the movies and he doesn’t have to. Jayda’s a Sith and again, not evil, cruel, or out to kill all Sith. Most the Sith currently on the ship are more selfish and have less issue with killing someone in their way than a Jedi would, this doesn’t mean he would have be continually going after people on the ship. As for the connection, it’s plausible if you can work with one of the others over it and make it believable. Jayda and Lea have family on the Rescuers played by Ellri and CQ, which for them will test their alignment hot and heavy when they encounter each other. Through keep in mind if he helps the Rescuers or Prisoners, he will suffer the consequences from it and can possibly be killed. If it's discovered at least.
Personally, I want to write about a character at a crossroad and have his affiliation be something that's born out of the story organically rather than a part of his backstory. If that won't work, then I'll think of something else.
Well, he could’ve been defeated and spared by one of the Jedi currently imprisoned on the Kaggath, allowing him to escape? However he knows what will happen if he helps and try to pay his debt, creating a sense of conflict that you’re looking for. Jayda herself has a similar conflict, through still selfish, that she wants the Jedi to get away so she doesn’t have to torture them. Another note that in this period Jedi could easily kill Sith because they were a Sith, even if they surrendered, which blurs the line between Sith and Jedi because of the goal justify the means. Some Jedi, slightly encouraged or overlooked by the Council, were out to win the war at almost any cost which made them extremely dark in other Jedi’s views. Lyric, the commanding master, is actually a good example of prejudice against Sith because he will try to provoke a prisoner Sith into attacking him and giving him the excuse to kill them without breaking any laws in the Jedi Code. At least in his view. If this doesn’t appeal, another thought over the type of conflict you’re describing is having him once be a Jedi, then have been turned to the dark side during the war for any number of reasons. These Jedi could give him that ability to turn back and be forgiven, but that forgiveness comes at a risk of betraying the Sith he has come to know differently than the Council’s teachings. Also, guilt due to what he’s done and how he’s connected, and so creating that inner struggle that either side can influence. If you make another PC, might consider that as your theme? It would allow it to be played out in the IC and still give a bit of what you’re craving as well.
I'm kind of dying to join an active RP so I'm willing to be flexible :P ...The other ones I've joined have stalled for one reason or another :(
The GMS will help you create/adapt a PC to the rp best we can. If you can get by the CS process, you’re good as golden within this rp. The hardest part of the rp is merely getting a CS approved because even the GMs have had to adapt their CSes to each other’s standards and there’s rarely been a CS that hasn’t needed minor or major adaptations so as long as you’re willing to make these, no matter how many times, you’ll do just fine.
