Obviously there's an abundance of eyes made of glass atop a walking block of metal in nature hmm? If you placed a feudal or renaissance man against the Mech there is no way they would guess the glass on top was an eye, certainly not for a long time anyway, they certainly wouldn't do it in fractions of a second, which is round about how long the Pater was directly in contact with the Mech. The Pater made the leap that windows are made from glass and humans stare through windows and that was enough to know that the unnatural metal thing had a person inside and it was using the little glass thing on top to see. For all it knew the Mech may have just been some metal Golem, seeing as how Higan had never projected his voice outside the Mech.
