And I'm thinking Pokemon of the same species will look the same but there can be others that look different, kind of like how we sometimes get albino animals or cats with different colored eyes and etc.

Thanks! I have Charmander(F)/Spearow(M) and Rattata(M)/Caterpie(F) as pairs. Solo'd the second Rival battle though, just to get free Pokeballs and get a more interesting first pair. So far my Charmander is stone cold. At two hp in the first battle with Green, ended his Squirtle with a crit scratch. It looked bad for a while in the second fight with Bubble coming in, but she pulled through.
But not sure about what you said in reference to the appearances. Can they be different or not?
