I dunno about wars, but a Commonwealth Tycoon who felt guilty about inventing and mass-producing TNT could have been one of the backers for the Red Cross equivlent.

Disputes over who holds the patents and who let the design notes leak may be a serious point of contention between Engine's East Academy and whatever tank design board you have.

Who ripped off who? Which side had a inventor defect? An argument that may never be answered.
