Felix Smoke Academy Auditorium – September 10th – 9:08 Felix arrived at the auditorium just as his superior started the welcoming speech that he now knew so well and smiled at the gathering of young men and boys before him. They were the core of the Academy. Its world class reputation gained through an embrace of new magical study and science. This was evident from the youth of the staff themselves, he himself having been a student only 5 years ago, Kyle Andrews a powerful psychic in the year above him. His grey eyes scanned the sea of faces before him, noting both past students and the anxious expressions of those who were attending for the first time. He couldn’t help but let a smile run over his lips as he spotted his younger brother’s blonde locks in the crowd but his eyes quickly narrowed at the sight of Thonovan Wavecrest slipping out of the study with a small commotion. It was then he noticed that his fellow professor had finished his speech. With a nod to his immaculately dressed friend he stepped forward and sent a shower of sparks into the air with a flick of his wrist each erupting in a clouds of glittering silver smoke. He smiled at the nominal pun. “Gentlemen” his warm voice boomed across the cavernous room, “if any of you would care for a tour of the grounds, please do follow me." He turned on his heel and strode down the long corridor. He listened keenly to the shuffling of feet behind him as a crowd followed him toward the dining hall. “I’m Professor Smoke of the Warlock department” he said to his following. “Any of you interested in defensive magic, botany, healing or this…” water erupted from a passing drinking fountain and arched over their heads before freezing in a lacy floral archway, “will be seeing me for classes.” The archway burst into a power of snow that drifted down on the gaggle of students. He stopped before a warm room filled with large tables and a permanently roaring fireplace. “This room, gentlemen, is the dining room, where you will be served 3 meals a day.” He gestured behind them at a tall set of intricately carved doors. “Behind you is our research library, where you all have access and straight ahead are your dormitory rooms.” He’d ditched the complete tour last year after all parties involved found individual room allocations relatively awkward. Instead: “You’ll find your names on your rooms. Please do come find me in the auditorium if you have any questions.” He headed back toward the large room puzzled at the lack of his little brother’s blonde mop. “So Professor,” he asked in a mocking tone to Kyle, “anything I need to know about this year?”
