"Jack" could do little more than tilt her head in confusion, as the others... Well, they didn't exactly have a warm reception to her suggestion.  It had seemed like the quickest, simplest way to obtain a newspaper, but they'd all immediately shot her down.  The man with the nice hat (Shotaro, she had gathered) was [i]especially[/i] opposed to it, and as he kneeled down to look her in the eye all she could do was stare back silently until the other man (Philip, apparently) redirected his attentions elsewhere.

[i]"We... Don't understand..."[/i] she mumbled, watching Shotaro's less violent attempts to procure the newspaper.  She didn't understand these people at all...
