The roar of monsters would be heard all around, knowing they was all in dangerous territory trying to follow the stone. the stone would of gone off a cliff and landed somewhere in more forest below, no clear way down, they could hear loud stomping sounds behind them of a loud creature smashing through trees as if it is following them.
