"That's fair. You guys did just get out of a terrible situation." Of course, they could be lying to them and in reality they're working for the same people that slaughtered Omega and Cam's village, but at this point, they didn't have much of a choice. It was either comply with their directives or get slaughtered by their former captors. Justin felt for his pack and groaned. "So, our gear is back at the camp an-" "Got it right here." The wiry one pointed to the pack on his back before handing it to Justin, the scout's brow raising in surprise. "How on earth did you get through all of them?" "We caught sight of you both when you were being taken in by the mongrels. Tracked you back to their village, knocked out a few of them and waited to try and bust you out." "I'm impressed." "Yeah, you should be. Our boss didn't want us to commit ourselves to saving you, but we don't normally see people we don't know out here that are alive, let alone ones who manage to escape with their skins intact and fresh gear. Figured you were from the south." Justin brandished a small key found at the bottom of his pack with a cross emblazoned on the wide end. "A key to a lockbox I have back home. The cross on it is our mark." The large one stepped forward and grabbed the key out of Justin's hand, examining it closely before passing it to the skinny one, the latter glancing at it before nodding. "You could have gotten this off of a body, but normally I can tell when people are lying to my face." "Nice skill to have." The wiry one snorted at the comment, tossing the key back to Justin as he told the duo: "Just need to hike up a trail not too far from here. We'll get you both a bed, then you're presenting yourselves to the boss in the morning." "I really don't know how to thank you guys." "Oh we'll come up with something." The "hike" felt more like climbing a mountain with Justin's level of fatigue, the scout having to stop a few times on the way to catch his breath. He apologized the first time, but every occurrence after that was received with silence. After turning past another curve in the path, they reached a level clearing which had ramshackle fencing consisting of rusting metal and corrugated aluminum that were barely illuminated by torches mounted around the wall. There was a gate that they walked through which was flanked by two guards brandishing slick, black assault rifles with knives snugly secured at the ends. There were a number of smaller shacks made of wood and metal, but what caught Justin's attention were the small gardens in front of the makeshift homes. There were oblong shaped vegetables and spherical produce...growing... "You can...you can grow here?" "Working on it. We'll explain all that later." The skinny one brought them to a shack, opening the door to reveal a rather plain interior with two single beds tucked in either corner of the room. "We'll get you. Food and water are in that cabinet over there." The door rattled behind as their rescuer left. Justin blew out a sigh, peeling his shirt off his sweat stained back and throwing it on the ground. "You know, for some reason, I think I'm going to sleep well tonight." He chuckled as he looked to Cam. "How are you holding up?"
