The year is 91 B.C. (Before Current). The Varectian Republic has a long and storied martial history, but her sudden expansion has stalled. With the great Southern Mayyad Empire growing in the south, and the Lacedonian and Delosian provinces requiring attention across the water, the Republic must now face threats external and internal, lest it fall apart at treacherous hands from the inside and growing threats from the outside. The Ardenoisian Tribes to the north and the People of Marfactorum and Thecian colony of Sarecia on the Delosian Isle to the east, the potential for expansion is ever present. To the west, the Sasticcan Tribes and the fiercely independent Subian tribes threaten trade routes.

The Varectian Senate, with one hundred junior and senior senators is a power unto itself. With the Varectian Legions at it's beck and call, it is a powerful tool, except for it's constant division. You, as a senator of the Varectian Senate or a governor of one of the Republic's vast provinces, will lead the Republic. Though will you lead it to it's continuation, or its downfall?
These are the provinces in order of accumulation: Varectia: The home of the Varectian Republic. It is the most developed of the entire Republic with a population of about 450,000 Varectians. Home to Varus, the capital of the Republic and the Varectian Senate, it is an important trade hub. It is the only province under the guidance of the Senate, and not a governor. -- Governor: NONE. -- Loyalty: 10/10 -- Garrison: 50,000 Auxilia, 20 Triremes -- Manpower: 100,000 Men. -- Income: 300 Vects/Year
Samelko: The first conquest of the fledgling Varectian Republic in 285 B.C. The Samelko tribes were fanciful traders and explorers, but their ability to wage war was questionable at best. The short Samelko War saw the complete subjugation of Samelko by the Varectian Republic. It's long time conquest has seen a huge migration of Samelkan's and Varectians to such an extent, the two provinces are nearly indistinguishable. Tyyrhia: The Kingdom of Tyyrhia, with a population of 150,000 had been at odds with the Varectians since after the Samelko War. The Tyyrhians, a fledgling naval power, eventually decided to try their luck before the Varectians became too powerful. The Vareco-Tyyrhian War lasted twelve years, and saw the first major use of the Varectian Legion, and specifically I LegionTyrannicus, which distinguished itself in the Battle of Herus. Tyyrhia, conquered in 218 B.C. has not yet settled it's ways, but is a variable breadbasket to the empire. -- Governor: NONE. -- Loyalty: 7/10 -- Garrison: 13,000 Auxilia, I Legion Tyrannicus (5,000) -- Manpower: 45,000 Men -- Income: 140 Vects/Year -- Treasury: 180 Vects
Naussius: In 191 B.C. the Varectian Republic turned south, to the sloping desert plains of the Naussian tribes. Naussius, with a population of 250,000 (which at the same made it the second most powerful nation in the world), was divided into eight separate tribes. It was the Naussian leader Antoginus who saw the rising threat of Varectian hegemony in the area. He united five of the tribes when the Varectian legions marched into Naussia. Antoginus, with an army of 80,000 men (nearly a third of every man who could carry a sword), destroyed the Varectian army under Caecina Severus in 189 B.C. at the Battle of Maesia. In 188 B.C. Caecina Severus returned with a second army, and conquered Naussia, personally slaying Antognius in battle. Tuebia: The largest province of the Republic, Tuebia was the result of two five year expeditions under Consul Domitian Justinius from 185 B.C. to 174 B.C. The Tuebian tribes were scattered, and were never fully united, which allowed the countless plains and forests to be conquered piecemeal. The Tuebian warriors, some of the most fierce in the world, were not easily bested and required no less than three legions for it's full conquest. Millyria: The Millyrian Province fell during the Varecto-Millyrian Wars, lasting on and off between 174 B.C. and 151 B.C. The conquests, which quietly took chunks of Millyrian lands, wore down the embattled tribes in the land and destroyed the Millyrian Kingdom that formed in 153 B.C. to fully oppose the Varectian Republic. The Millyrian King was defeated, returned to Varus and executed in 152 B.C. Lacedonia: Lacedonia, another overseas province conquered in 101 B.C, was the one of the first "civilized" conquests by Varectia. The Kingdom of Lacedonia, home to Tespasia the Grand, once ruled a swathe of land thrice as large as Varectia herself. The kingdom he left in his death in 421 B.C. however was decadent and weak. The tribes he conquered to the north quickly returned to self-governance, and the current King of Lacedonia, Magrik, offered only meager resistance to the Varectian Legions that marched to his shores. With a population of 180,000, Lacedonia is still fiercely independent and it's people often clamber against Varectian rule. -- Governor: Julius Conrad Velos, 29. Calenus: Won in a border dispute with the Subians in 96 B.C., the Calenus Province is devoid of resources, manpower and station. It is a functional backwater, and any governor sent here would be well put out of the way. Delos: Only recently just conquered at the head of Consul Lucius Arruntius's expedition to the Delosian Isle in 91 B.C, Delos is the newest addition to the Republic. The people there reside under the reign of a nation that has conquered them and are fiercely resentful of such a fact. They constantly threaten rebellion. THE GOAL OF THE GAME -- As a Varectian, you may want to expand the empire in a war. You may want to see it's citizens more loyal. You may wish to forge alliances. You may wish. . to become Emperor. These are all possible. -- Governors must pay attention to the Loyalty of their provinces. Higher loyalty will increase it's income. Lower loyalty may cause it to revolt, though Governor's who wish to seize power may want a rebellious province. A province not loyal to the Republic will also be more loyal to the governor if he too does not support Varectia. -- Senators must pay attention to their Support, which can range from 0 to 100. These NPC Senators are crucial for passing bills in your favor. -- Besides just your actions, great IC posts will garner favorable events for you.

Taxation: Current Provincial Taxation is 50%. It can be increased in increments of 10 Per Province. Any increment over 70 decreases Loyalty by 1. Any increment under 50 increases Loyalty by 1. This bill can be voted on Per Province.
Foreign Military Service: Foreign Military Service is currently Prohibited. It offers no benefits to any provinces. This bill can be voted on Per Province. * Limited: Foreigners may serve in Vectarian Auxiliaries. +10% Manpower in all Provinces.
